By 2030: Private economy contributes about 70-80% of GRDP of Can Tho city

(CT) - Can Tho City People's Committee has just issued Plan No. 31/KH-UBND to implement Resolution No. 68-NQ/TW dated May 4, 2025 of the Politburo on private economic development (PED) in Can Tho City.

The plan sets the target that by 2030, the private sector will be the most important driving force contributing to the development of the city and the national economy; a pioneer in the development of science and technology, innovation and digital transformation, contributing to the successful implementation of the goals of Resolution No. 57-NQ/TW dated December 22, 2024 of the Politburo "On breakthroughs in science and technology development, innovation and national digital transformation" and other policies and guidelines of the Party. Striving to have over 45,000 enterprises operating in the city, with an enterprise density of 14-20 enterprises operating per thousand people. The average growth rate of the private sector will reach about 10%/year, higher than the growth rate of the economy; contributing about 70-80% of GRDP, about 30-35% of total state budget revenue, creating jobs for over 90% of total labor force; labor productivity increases on average about 13%/year.

By 2045, there will be about 75,000 enterprises operating in the city; the enterprise density will reach over 20 enterprises operating/1,000 people or more. Forming a team of entrepreneurs with strategic vision, national spirit, business culture and sustainable business leadership capacity in a globalized environment.

Plan No. 31/KH-UBND of the City People's Committee aims to develop a sustainable and effective private economy, ensuring the principle of voluntariness, originating from the needs and interests of the people and participating organizations, with many forms of association and diverse cooperation, maximizing local advantages; harmoniously developing the economy with culture, society, environmental protection and adaptation to climate change; in accordance with the conditions, characteristics and socio-economic development goals of the city. This is also the basis for organizing the implementation of private economy development tasks to ensure synchronization, specificity for each task, solution, responsibility of the presiding unit, coordinating unit, roadmap, completion time in the spirit of high effort and determination to complete the tasks and achieve the set goals. The tasks and solutions of the plan focus on innovating thinking and action; promoting reform, improving the quality of mechanism and policy building; facilitate private enterprises to access resources of land, capital, high-quality human resources; promote science and technology, innovation, digital transformation, green transformation; strengthen connections between private enterprises, private enterprises with state-owned enterprises and FDI enterprises...

Currently, the city's private economic zone has nearly 20,500 operating enterprises, contributing about 74% of GRDP and over 80% of the city's total budget revenue. Many private enterprises have grown strongly, affirmed their brands and reached out to regional and world markets.
