On the morning of June 28, the People's Court of Khanh Hoa province sentenced defendant Dao Toan Dien (born in 1985) to 7 years in prison for murder; defendant Dao Manh Toan (Dien's younger brother, born in 1993, both residing in Cam Phuc Bac ward, Cam Ranh city) to 9 months in prison but suspended the sentence. Regarding civil liability, because the victim did not request it, the court did not consider it.

According to the indictment, Mr. Bui Van Quy had a conflict with Toan because Toan cheated at cards with Mr. Quy. At noon on February 10, 2022, while drinking, Mr. Quy told the story of Toan cheating at cards, leading to a conflict. Mr. Quy rushed to beat Toan but was stopped by everyone. On the way home, Toan met Dien and Ty HQ (unknown background) and told them about being beaten by Mr. Quy. Dien then went home to get a knife and asked Toan to take him to see Mr. Quy to talk. But when he met Mr. Quy, Dien stabbed him twice in the upper abdomen and right chest, causing 9% injury. Toan witnessed Dien stab Mr. Quy, then took Dien to throw the knife.
The forensic conclusion determined that Mr. Quy's injuries were life-threatening.
