Implementing the long-term plan to deploy VAR technology in the national professional football tournament system (first of all, V-League), to ensure human resources to operate VAR, VPF Company and the Referee Board of the Vietnam Football Federation (VFF) continue to deploy the next training session for 13 referees, VAR assistant referees, 10 technicians (RO) of the 2nd course from January 15 to 21, 2024.
This is the final important training step according to FIFA regulations for VAR referees. If the referees and ROs pass the test and assessment by FIFA experts, they will be granted certificates and can be assigned to work when the V-League 2023 - 2024 resumes from February 17.

On the morning of January 15, the VAR referee training course, phase 3, opened at the VFF meeting room. This course is taught by 4 Vietnamese lecturers, including Mr. Dang Thanh Ha - Head of the VFF Referee Committee, Mr. Vo Quang Vinh - Deputy Head of the VFF Referee Committee, Mr. Vo Minh Tri, Mr. Pham Manh Long. FIFA lecturer, Mr. Anaz Hakan, an Australian, will coordinate with Vietnamese lecturers to directly train referees and ROs throughout the course.
Currently, the referees and ROs have completed the training content of step 2 (practice on the simulation system in the LAB room with available situations). During the time when the domestic professional football tournaments are temporarily suspended for the national team to compete in the 2023 Asian Cup Finals, the final important training step of the VAR referee training course 2 is implemented with on-field practice programs.

Accordingly, referees and ROs will undergo practical training steps on VAR vehicles with increasing levels of difficulty and time. Students will undergo many rigorous testing steps. In addition to meeting the requirements of the direct instructors, all practice videos of each student will also be sent to FIFA for final overall evaluation and certification decisions.
In the first training course, FIFA certified 18 referees, 10 ROs to operate VAR and 2 standard VAR vehicles are currently operating in V-League 2023 - 2024. In the coming time, VFF and VPF will have 2 more VAR vehicles sponsored by FIFA. The presence of VAR has contributed significantly to ensuring fairness and objectivity in V-League matches in recent times.
In the near future, Vietnam will have 2 more VAR cars sponsored by FIFA. VAR will cover the V-League.
VPF Company and VFF Referee Board are gradually realizing the goal of being able to "cover" VAR in all matches in the V-League. When the operational human resources are ready, completing the technical infrastructure to meet the goal will only be a matter of time. The implementation of VAR referee training courses not only helps referees get acquainted with modern support technology. More importantly, referees continue to hone their skills and experience. In the future, VPF Company and VFF Referee Board will continue to implement more VAR referee training courses to ensure that the operational force meets professional requirements.
