Pu Luong art troupe in traditional Thai costumes perform for tourists.
The West of Thanh Hoa is blessed with beautiful and rich natural landscapes. This place attracts visitors not only by its vast primeval forests, majestic mountain ranges, or beautiful waterfalls... but also by the unique cultural values of the Thai, Tho, Muong, Mong, Dao, and Kho Mu ethnic groups. These factors are identified as a solid foundation for community tourism to gradually affirm its brand, becoming one of the province's strong tourism products, bringing attractive journeys of discovery to visitors.
In recent years, the community tourism model in some localities has had a clear transformation. Many villages have welcomed a large number of domestic and international tourists thanks to thorough preparation, from investing in infrastructure, building resorts, homestays, training tourism skills for the community, to forming tours and sightseeing routes imbued with national cultural identity. One of the highlights is Pu Luong Community Ecotourism Area - a place known as "miniature Sa Pa". If you have ever been here even once, no matter what season of the year, you will surely be impressed by the wild, majestic beauty of the mountains and forests along with unique cultural experiences such as: bamboo dancing, cooking and enjoying cuisine , bamboo rafting... Up to now, Don village, Bam village, Hieu village, Bang village, Son - Ba - Muoi village... are names that are no longer strange to tourists who love to experience.
Mr. Tran Van Dung, a tourist from Hanoi, shared after his trip to Ban Don: “I have been to many community tourism destinations, but in Pu Luong, I felt a very unique cultural space. Friendly people, delicious food, fresh air, especially the way the community preserves the environment as well as spreads traditional values, really impressed me. Therefore, the journey to Pu Luong is not only about sightseeing or relaxation, but also brings us to experience the real life of the indigenous people and hear about the customs of the Thai people among the traditional stilt houses”.
Not only Pu Luong, many other destinations such as Nang Cat village - Ma Hao waterfall (Linh Son commune), Ma village (Thuong Xuan commune), Ngam village (Son Dien commune), But village (Nam Xuan commune) ... are also gradually "positioning" their place on the community tourism map. Although only exploited in recent years, these villages are loved by tourists for their inherent pristine features and "golden materials" in traditional culture. Coming to Nang Cat village, home to the Thai people, amidst the cool green space of nature are traditional stilt houses, giving visitors a sense of peace, blending with the mountains and forests. Here, visitors can learn and participate in activities such as weaving brocade, harvesting honey, cooking with the locals, bathing in the stream, or immersing themselves in the captivating xoè and sap dances. Thanks to that, community tourism here is no longer simply "going to see", but a trip for tourists to love the local culture more and connect with the community.
In fact, when people directly participate in the chain of tourism activities, from providing accommodation, food, tour guides, organizing art performances to producing traditional handicrafts, it not only helps them improve their income, but also fosters pride in their national identity. In order for community tourism to become a highlight in the development of the "smokeless industry", Thanh Hoa province has recently issued a number of policies to support the development of tourism models associated with cultural preservation. Along with that is the active participation of relevant departments, branches and units in training human resources, raising awareness among people in tourism development.
Director of the Provincial Center for Tourism Promotion, Culture and Cinema Nguyen Thi Mai Huong said: “The Center has organized training courses on choreography, practice and support of props and costumes for art troupes at community tourism sites. In particular, the focus is on imparting methods of directing and choreographing folk art programs to serve tourists and community cultural activities; guiding the development of folk art programs to serve tourists at tourist sites; ways to organize art exchange performances, interacting with people and tourists. Along with that, support of props and suitable costumes for art troupes. The goal is not only to attract tourists, but also to contribute to preserving and promoting the cultural values of ethnic minorities in the mountainous areas of the province”.
On the journey back to the community, meeting the indigenous culture in the West of Thanh, tourists not only bring beautiful photos, souvenirs, but also bring memories of "Safe, civilized, friendly" destinations. However, besides the achievements, Thanh community tourism also faces many challenges in planning, difficult traffic infrastructure connecting some destinations, limited quality of human resources... Therefore, the development of community tourism needs to be given special attention by all levels and sectors, associated with the preservation and promotion of traditional cultural values, avoiding the situation of copying models, so that community tourism truly has a highlight, becoming a unique product of the province.
