Recently, Mr. Ngoc Duc, a collector of antique motorbikes in Hanoi , said that he had bought a very beautiful 1995 Vespa PX150E, especially the vehicle was 100% original. Because of that, the vehicle is quite expensive, up to 170 million VND even though it is 30 years old. This price is even double the selling price of a new Honda SH scooter on the market today. In terms of appearance, the 1995 Vespa PX150E remains faithful to the monocoque steel frame design, softly curved monolithic body, wing-shaped front fender and characteristic round headlights.
The bike has a pair of small 10-inch wheels and large handlebars, creating a “rough” yet elegant look. Compared to current models, the PX150E exudes a rustic, mechanical and genuine look – what vintage bike enthusiasts often call “live steel”. The heart of the 1995 PX150E is a 150cc, air-cooled, 2-stroke engine with a 4-speed manual transmission controlled by the left hand, a typical Vespa style. Although the capacity is only about 8 horsepower, Mr. Duc said that the feeling of driving the PX150E is very unique: light vibration, slow but real response, creating a bond between the person and the vehicle. According to Mr. Duc, what makes the PX150E sought after by collectors is not only its rarity but also its cultural value. This is the period when Piaggio transitioned from the mechanical to the electronic era, but the PX remained steadfast in its philosophy of “simple and strong”, simplicity and durability. It is this conservatism that has helped the PX line become a timeless icon.
Born in the mid-1990s, the Vespa PX150E is considered one of the last models that still retains the classic spirit of the Italian brand. With a design that bears the mark of the 70s - 80s, the PX150E is not only a means of transportation but also a symbol of lifestyle, of a very unique "style" that Vespa lovers around the world are still fascinated by. The launch of the PX series, Vespa created a turning point in Piaggio history when combining traditional design with modern technology at that time. The PX150E version appeared in 1995 - the "E" stands for "Elestart", referring to the vehicle being equipped with an electric starter instead of kick-starting. Nowadays, an original classic Vespa PX150E, especially an Italian import, can be worth hundreds of millions of VND in Vietnam. The PX150E is not only owned for its material value but also for the nostalgic spirit it evokes.
Each car carries a story about the liberal European years, the free Italian lifestyle, and the passion of Vietnamese classic car enthusiasts who are preserving that beauty. Video : First test ride of 2-stroke Vespa PX150E (1995).
