Why was the trial of 6 players of Ba Ria - Vung Tau Football Club postponed?

On April 4, the People's Court of Ba Ria - Vung Tau province held a trial for the case of "Gambling" and "Organizing gambling" against 6 defendants who are players of the provincial football club.

The defendants include: Nguyen Son Hai (31 years old), Nguyen Quang Huy (21 years old), Pham Van Phong (21 years old), Le Bang Gia Huy (23 years old), Nguyen Khanh Duy (22 years old), Tran Ky Anh (21 years old).

According to the indictment, all 6 players belong to Ba Ria - Vung Tau Football Club, playing in the First Division and National Cup in the 2023-2024 season.

During their time playing for Ba Ria - Vung Tau Club, the players participated in gambling (betting) and organized gambling (match-fixing) by fixing the scores of 2 matches that Ba Ria - Vung Tau Club participated in to gain illegal profits.

Specifically, on December 22, 2022, 2 days before the match between Ba Ria - Vung Tau Club and SHB Da Nang in the 2023-2024 First Division, players Gia Huy, Hai, Phong, Quang Huy met, discussed and agreed to play below their ability to bet on SHB Da Nang Club to win on the football betting website. When he learned the information, Ky Anh also participated in betting with his colleagues with the total amount of money the group participated in being more than 65 million VND.

As a result, SHB Da Nang Club won 3-1 over Ba Ria - Vung Tau Club. After the match, Hai received 8 million VND in winnings from betting; Gia Huy and Quang Huy received 13 million VND; Ky Anh received 4.6 million VND. As for Phong, because he failed to deposit money for betting, he gave his account to Hai to do it.

In addition, 2 days before the match between Dong Nai Club and Ba Ria - Vung Tau Club in the National Cup on November 24, 2023, 5 players including Gia Huy, Son Hai, Quang Huy, Phong, Duy discussed and agreed to arrange the score to earn money to spend.

To carry out his plan, Gia Huy contacted someone to arrange it and was introduced to a person named Quan (unknown background). After meeting in Dong Nai, all 5 players met with Quan to discuss and agreed that Quan would pay each person from 25-30 million VND, on the condition that the players had to follow Quan's signals while sitting in the stands.

As a result, Ba Ria - Vung Tau Club lost to Dong Nai Club with a score of 0-2, so each person received 24 million VND.

In this case, the investigation agency has decided to separate the case file to continue investigating and handling other related subjects.

Due to the absence of some relevant people and some objective reasons, the panel of judges decided to postpone the trial.
