59-year-old billionaire Jeff Bezos' superyacht caused controversy before it even set sail and broke records before it was even finished.
The superyacht, named Koru, took five years to complete and is nearly twice the length of an Airbus A380 (417 feet, about 127m). Earlier this year, the 3,300 GT monster Koru was spotted undergoing sea trials in the North Sea.

Koru has three masts that stretch up to 70m, almost half the height of the Great Pyramid of Giza, certainly fitting for the third richest man on the planet, currently with an estimated net worth of $117 billion.
Koru was built by Netherlands-based Oceanco and its maintenance costs could be as much as $50 million a year. Generally, the annual cost of operating and maintaining a superyacht accounts for nearly 10 percent of its price, and Koru is an expensive one with a value of up to $500 million.
The Netherlands' Koningshaven Bridge survived bombings during World War II, a historic landmark that is set to be temporarily dismantled to allow cruise ships to pass through.
That has angered locals, with more than 5,000 people signing up to a Facebook group to throw eggs at the three-masted boat if it crosses the dismantled bridge.
The New York Times later reported that the shipbuilder Oceanco had decided not to apply for a permit to dismantle the bridge, and instead the cruise ship's giant masts would be installed at a separate facility.
Three massive masts can propel the ship primarily by kinetic energy. With a capacity of 45 people, including crew, guests and professional staff, the yacht has a helipad for Bezos, an arsenal of “toys” including jet skis and a personal submarine.
Koru is almost twice as long as an airplane and costs as much.
The $500 million superyacht has a black hull and white superstructure, and has an elegant appearance, but so far little is known about what it looks like inside. There are three decks in total, one of which has a swimming pool; there is also a gym, spa and sauna.
Also built by Oceanco, the $200 million Black Pearl yacht is owned by Russian businessman Oleg it Burlakov. However, one cannot help but wonder why Bezos did not choose a smart folding system like the Black Pearl to allow the yacht to safely navigate canals…
