From 1 PM on December 31st, the Road Traffic Police Teams under the Traffic Police Department simultaneously deployed forces to key routes and areas, focusing on traffic flow management and guidance, and being ready to handle any arising situations to ensure smooth and safe traffic for people participating in New Year's Day celebrations.
At the gateways to the capital, traffic police, in coordination with local police and the Traffic Police Department ( Ministry of Public Security ), are focusing on traffic management and guidance to facilitate people leaving the city before the extended Tet holiday, especially on routes leading to expressways and key national highways.
Lieutenant Colonel Pham Van Chien, Head of Road Traffic Police Team No. 6, said that the extended New Year's Day holiday in 2026 led to a surge in travel demand, with a significant increase in traffic volume on routes leading to the expressway from early afternoon on December 31st. In response, the unit proactively deployed forces early, coordinating closely with the Traffic Police Department and local teams to manage traffic flow and minimize the risk of prolonged congestion.
To ensure the smooth running of the " Hanoi Countdown 2026" program at Dong Kinh Nghia Thuc Square and the two high-altitude fireworks displays in the Hoan Kiem Lake area, Lieutenant Colonel Tran Quang Chinh, Deputy Head of Road Traffic Police Team No. 1, said that the unit has coordinated with the police in the wards under its responsibility to organize traffic diversion from a distance, guiding vehicles to move along appropriate routes, limiting vehicles from entering the event area, and avoiding prolonged traffic congestion.

In addition, traffic police units are stepping up their efforts to raise awareness and remind people to strictly comply with traffic laws; not to stop or park vehicles illegally; not to gather in the middle of the road; and to strictly enforce fire prevention and control regulations during events and fireworks displays.
Lieutenant Colonel Vuong Dang Cuong, Head of Road Traffic Police Team No. 7, said that the unit maintains alcohol level checks before, during, and after the New Year's holiday, resolutely handling violations to help prevent traffic accidents and ensure safety for people celebrating the New Year.
In addition to deploying forces directly on the routes, the Hanoi Traffic Police Department also effectively utilizes the traffic surveillance camera system and strengthens coordination with media agencies to promptly inform and update traffic conditions in real time, helping people proactively choose suitable travel routes.

Ensuring the safety of fireworks display sites for the New Year.
On New Year's Eve, 4,000 high-altitude fireworks, 360 low-altitude fireworks displays, and various pyrotechnic displays were launched from five locations across the city. To ensure the safety of the fireworks display, the locations were strictly guarded and protected, and all preparations were supervised by agencies under the Hanoi Capital Command and the Hanoi City Police. The personnel directly involved in the technical execution of the fireworks display received thorough training in methods, skills, and operation of the equipment. The entire firing process was under the overall direction of the city's command center located at the Hanoi Capital Command. Fire prevention, firefighting, and rescue operations were carried out with maximum manpower and resources, utilizing the most modern equipment.
Lieutenant Colonel Tong Huy Hoang, Deputy Commander of the Hong Ha Area 3 Defense Command, said that the unit is in charge of all five fireworks display sites in the city. "All fireworks displays have been completed according to plan, adhering to safety procedures with the support of the city's police forces in ensuring security, order, and fire prevention and control," Lieutenant Colonel Tong Huy Hoang stated.
As the unit directly responsible for fire prevention and firefighting at the fireworks display site in Thong Nhat Park (Hai Ba Trung Ward), Lieutenant Colonel Tran Khac Tuan, Team Leader of Firefighting and Rescue Team No. 9, stated that the unit has ensured fire prevention and control measures at the fireworks display site. In addition to specialized fire trucks, the unit has prepared high-capacity pumps connected to fire hydrants along the lake, directly drawing water from the lake as a contingency in case of an emergency.

Major Ngo Minh Duc, Deputy Head of Tay Ho Ward Police, said that the ward police have developed a plan to ensure security, order, and fire prevention at the fireworks display area in Lac Long Quan flower garden; mobilizing forces and resources, increasing patrols and controls, and being ready to handle any situations that may arise during the event.
"In addition, the police station has been carrying out propaganda work to remind people to comply with regulations when participating in traffic, not to stop or park vehicles illegally, not to gather in the middle of the road, and to comply with regulations on fire prevention and control," Major Ngo Minh Duc said.
As the location for the fireworks display at Van Quan Lake, the Youth Union and Women's Association of the Ha Dong Ward Police proactively prepared 500 meals, including bread and drinks, to provide timely support to the forces on duty. Lieutenant Colonel Pham Van Trong, Head of the Ha Dong Ward Police, said that the Ward Police Command directly visited and encouraged the officers, soldiers, and coordinating forces who were on duty throughout the night for the peace and security of the people.
After the New Year's fireworks display, people returned from entertainment venues to celebrate with their families, but Hanoi City Police officers and soldiers remained on duty, maintaining security and order. The spirit of "serving the people" of the Hanoi Police force ensured absolute security, order, and safety for the people to enjoy Tet and welcome the New Year.
