At the beginning of 2026, the Mong Cai Border Gate Customs completed customs clearance procedures for the first imported shipment through the Bac Luan II border gate. This shipment consisted of machinery and equipment worth US$4.5 million, with taxes paid totaling VND 9.9 billion. The successful and smooth handling of this first import shipment is a positive sign for import and export activities right from the start of the new year, promising a vibrant import and export season. It is estimated that in 2025, the total weight of goods imported and exported through the Bac Luan II border gate will reach 1,721,524 tons, an increase of 33.9% compared to the same period in 2024. Simultaneously, the import and export activities of tourists through the Bac Luan II border gate are also expected to be very active.
Mong Cai 1 Ward is a border locality and border gate with a particularly important geopolitical and economic position; it is the core area of the Tra Co National Tourist Area; and a major trading hub between Vietnam and China and the Northeast Asian region. The ward is home to the Mong Cai International Border Gate, with two customs crossings (Bac Luan I and Bac Luan II bridges), where import and export activities are bustling, facilitating economic, cultural, and tourism development in the ward.
Right from the first days of operating under the two-tiered local government model, Mong Cai 1 ward was very proactive in stabilizing its administrative apparatus and immediately began taking the first steps to create momentum for the new term in all aspects. In particular, it was unanimously determined that this was a new opportunity for the locality to transform itself in line with the reform spirit of the Central Government and the province. Therefore, the entire political system at the commune level built a strong unity, promoted democracy, revived cultural values, and boosted socio -economic development.
Party committees and authorities at all levels, from ward to neighborhood, with the role and responsibility of their leaders, uphold the tradition of unity and solidarity, strive to overcome difficulties and challenges, especially new and unprecedented ones, and lead, direct, and organize the implementation scientifically, ensuring the quality and progress of the set goals, targets, and tasks. By 2025, the ward will complete and exceed 13 out of 13 targets (exceeding 5 targets and achieving 8 targets). Total state budget revenue (domestic revenue) is estimated at 1,050 billion VND, reaching 167.9% of the projected amount; the number of tourists visiting Mong Cai 1 ward will reach over 2.3 million people. The ward will maintain no poor or near-poor households according to the province's criteria. The average per capita income in Mong Cai 1 ward in 2025 is estimated at over 112 million VND/person. Administrative reform, improvement of the investment and business environment, and development of the private economy have yielded positive results. The ward has also effectively implemented social welfare policies, including organizing visits and gift-giving to 1,457 policy beneficiaries during holidays and Tet (Lunar New Year) with a total expenditure of over 3 billion VND...
Mr. Ho Quang Huy, Secretary of the Party Committee and Chairman of the People's Council of Mong Cai 1 Ward, stated: The Ward Party Committee has identified the theme for 2026 as "Breaking through and accelerating economic development; promoting investment attraction and shifting the economic structure towards the trade and service sectors; and improving urban quality." Accordingly, the ward will continue to strengthen the building and rectification of the Party and the political system to ensure a clean, strong, and comprehensive system; improve the quality of the cadre; promote unity, democracy, discipline, self-reliance, and self-improvement; and resolutely fight against corruption, waste, and negative phenomena. The goal is to achieve breakthroughs and acceleration in economic development; increase budget revenue; promote digital transformation; focus on implementing and leveraging local advantages; boost private sector development; improve urban quality; pay attention to cultural and human development; ensure social security; and improve the material and spiritual quality of life for the people.
