Hung Dien commune militia reinforces dikes at key points

In recent days, prolonged heavy rains combined with water from the upper Mekong River have caused the water level in the communes of Dong Thap Muoi region to rise rapidly, causing local flooding in many agricultural production areas. In Hung Dien commune, floodwaters are still rising these days. At Se Dien peak, Trang river, Bung Ram hamlet, water has overflowed a 2km long dike, threatening about 100 hectares of rice in the milk stage. In order to respond promptly and prevent water from flooding the fields, more than 30 officers and soldiers of the Hung Dien Commune Military Command have been working hard to transport soil to reinforce the dike, deploy field pumps to pump water, determined not to let people's crops be flooded.

There were times when dark clouds rolled in, the sky was stormy or at noon, the soldiers still persevered to dig hundreds of cubic meters of earth to block the looming floodwaters. Commander of the Hung Dien Commune Military Command, Pham Huy Manh, said: "The militia soldiers were assigned to be on duty day and night on the vulnerable dike sections. During these days, everyone put their efforts and hearts together to save the rice to help the people."

In Vinh Chau commune, the water level in many areas rose, threatening hundreds of hectares of rice and crops. Vinh An hamlet has nearly 200 hectares of rice in the growing stage, while Roc Nang hamlet is a specialized fruit growing area with high economic value. When the water level rose rapidly, threatening to overflow the banks, the commune Military Command mobilized all militia forces to work urgently day and night, determined to protect the farmers' crops.

From early morning to noon under the scorching sun, the soldiers were still rushing to move each bag of soil to the key positions. Although it was hard work, their backs were soaked with sweat, everyone tried their best, determined not to let the floodwaters overflow and wash away the people's efforts.

According to Commander of Vinh Chau Commune Military Command Le Van Tung, the unit has established a rapid response team to proactively handle natural disasters and incidents. Upon receiving instructions from the Party Committee and the Commune People's Committee, the unit immediately mobilized forces and vehicles to the area for rescue. No matter how difficult it is, the commune's military is still ready to work day and night to protect the lives and property of the people.

Vinh Thanh commune militia helps people harvest rice

Mr. Do Phuoc Loc's family (residing in Vinh An hamlet, Vinh Chau commune) has 5 hectares of jackfruit trees that are in harvest season. During the days of high floodwaters, he could not help but worry about the risk of flooding the entire garden. But after just one morning, with the timely support of the militia, the weak dike section was built high, preventing the water from overflowing. Mr. Loc emotionally shared: "Thanks to the timely support of the militia soldiers, my family was able to protect the garden and crops. I really thank you for not being afraid of the hardships to help people in difficult times!"

14 hectares of rice fields owned by Le Tan Danh and Le Thanh Cong (living in Vinh Thanh commune) were also at risk of being completely lost due to deep flooding. The militia, police and neighbors quickly arrived and together harvested the “flood-flooded” rice. In the vast flooded fields, hands quickly harvested, bundled and transported the rice. Sweat mixed with water, the hasty meal in the middle of the field was still filled with the warm affection between the army and the people.

Mr. Danh emotionally said: “The whole family depends on this field. Thanks to the timely help of the militia and neighbors, we have been able to harvest a part of the area. We are truly grateful for the enthusiastic help of the local armed forces.”

The image of officers and soldiers of the provincial armed forces not afraid of difficulties, standing side by side with people to reinforce dikes, harvest crops, and protect a peaceful life is proof of the strong military-civilian relationship, and at the same time demonstrates the qualities, mettle, and spirit of the provincial armed forces in the new period./.
