Thanks to this technology transfer, CGHMC Hospital doctors have successfully performed robotic surgery to treat rectal cancer. This is a difficult case, the female patient, 50 years old, had received chemotherapy before surgery and had her transverse colon opened to the skin due to intestinal obstruction.
Philippine doctors were impressed with the single docking technique (the robot's position does not change relative to the patient during the surgery, with only one placement of the robot arms) and the skillful, minimally invasive dissection technique of doctors at Binh Dan Hospital. "Previously, a case of robotic surgery for colorectal cancer at CGHMC Hospital could take up to 6 hours to perform. With the guidance of doctors at Binh Dan Hospital, the surgery using the new technique only takes 2 hours and 30 minutes to complete," Dr. Nguyen Phu Huu informed and said that he will support and guide the implementation of more cases here and have presentations to analyze important notes on robotic surgery for stomach cancer and colorectal cancer to help colleagues from other countries easily grasp the knowledge and skills to perform more complete surgery for patients.
Associate Professor, Doctor, Doctor Tran Vinh Hung, Director of Binh Dan Hospital, said that previously, in October 2019, the hospital's doctors had also transferred robotic surgery to the Philippines General Hospital. International cooperation for technology transfer is identified as one of the key points of Binh Dan Hospital in developing into a Robotic Surgery Training Center for hospitals in the country and the region, in line with the goal of building a specialized medical center in the ASEAN region of the Ho Chi Minh City health sector.
