The judo athlete from Thanh Hoa had an excellent performance at the Lima Panamerican Open 2024 tournament, currently taking place in Peru, thereby gaining enough points to qualify for the 2024 Olympics.

To win the right to compete in the final match of the women's 48kg weight class, Hoang Thi Tinh (ranked 98th in the world ) won against her opponents Diaz Martina (Chile, ranked 159th in the world) in the quarter-finals and Solis Jacqueline (Guatemala, ranked 65th in the world) in the semi-finals.

Hoang Thi Tinh's opponent in the final, Morand Priscilla (Mauritius, world rank 43), was considered very strong. Despite losing the awazari point (losing twice will result in a loss) and being penalized twice with shido (if penalized three times, the loss will be permanent); however, in this important match, the representative of Vietnamese judo had the necessary composure to turn the situation around. Successfully locking her opponent to score full points, Hoang Thi Tinh ended the match with the victory.

The victory in the match against boxer Morand Priscilla helped Hoang Thi Tinh accumulate enough points to officially qualify for the 2024 Olympics according to the continental quota.

According to the regulations for calculating the places for the Paris Olympics in judo, each weight class will have 17 places for the top martial artists according to the world rankings. Asia has 10 places for each event.

In the 10 Asian slots in the women's category, Hoang Thi Tinh ranked 9th with a total ranking score of 213 points.

To get this prestigious ticket, over the past 3 years, Hoang Thi Tinh has been diligently participating in point accumulation tournaments. Notably, the surprising defeat of the world's 48th ranked boxer Lois Petit of Belgium to enter the 1/8 round of the 2024 Grand Slam judo tournament helped Hoang Thi Tinh accumulate 160 more points to officially enter the top 10 of the Asian women's Olympic and the top 100 in the world, at the same time getting closer to the goal of winning an official ticket to the 2024 Paris Olympics.

According to information from the General Department of Sports and Physical Training, Hoang Thi Tinh's ticket to the 2024 Olympics is also the last official ticket for Vietnamese sports. Before Hoang Thi Tinh, Vietnamese sports had 12 Vietnamese athletes who won official tickets to the 2024 Paris Olympics, including: Nguyen Thi That (cycling), Nguyen Huy Hoang (swimming), Trinh Thu Vinh and Le Thi Mong Tuyen (shooting), Trinh Van Vinh (weightlifting), Nguyen Thi Huong (canoeing), Pham Thi Hue (rowing), Nguyen Thuy Linh and Le Duc Phat (badminton), Vo Thi Kim Anh and Ha Thi Linh (boxing), Le Quoc Phong (archery).
