Solving the human resource problem in the digital economy in Vietnam Towards green e-commerce and sustainable development |
Vietnam has great potential to develop the digital economy, but along with that are many challenges that need to be identified and resolved soon. Or it can be understood that the digital economy is currently mainly seen in e-commerce activities.
According to experts, the digital economy must be viewed more comprehensively, including many activities, from e-commerce, digital media, online advertising, software, telecommunications services and financial technology affecting production, distribution, consumption... In particular, digital technologies such as Blockchain, Bigdata, IoT are supporting the transformation of traditional business models and creating opportunities for innovation and growth.
Mr. Nguyen Huu Tuan, Head of the Department of E-commerce Management, Department of E-commerce and Digital Economy, Ministry of Industry and Trade, stated: "The scale of the internet economy is defined as having 4 groups: e-commerce including online ride-hailing, online travel, audio-visual content and online advertising. Based on that, Vietnam's e-commerce is in the Top 5 countries with the fastest growth rate in the world. But that's just the speed, the value is still very small. In 2022, it will reach about 23 billion USD. In 2025, it is expected to be about 49 billion USD. Currently, 72 million Vietnamese people are using the Internet, 57 million people shop online, 72% of whom want to experience mobile money. On average, each Vietnamese person is spending 288 USD on online shopping each year".
The potential of the digital economy was also cited and assessed by Mr. Le Nguyen Truong Giang, Director of the Institute of Digital Transformation Strategy, Vietnam Digital Communications Association and Mr. Phung Danh Thang - Head of the conference organizing committee through international statistics.
According to Mr. Giang: "The value of the digital economy comes from expanding the economy, literally transforming growth from breadth to depth, through the process of forming values of digital economic activities: Creating platforms, platforms that allow data to promote the formation of transactions, making successful transactions more effective to create value. Third, the digital economy contributes to solving obstacles to economic coordination, helping the economy optimize resources, optimize value and optimize opportunities".
Meanwhile, Mr. Phung Danh Thang said: "In the world , the digital economy is also focused on in leading economies such as the US and China. According to the report of the Cyberspace Administration of China, China's digital economy is ranked second in the world with 6,960 billion USD in 2022, accounting for 41.5% of GDP. That shows the great potential of the digital economy in Vietnam and globally. However, the development of the digital economy also faces many challenges in terms of information security, technology infrastructure, human resources or institutions that have a significant impact on the development of the digital economy."
Some statistics show that, for Vietnam and developed countries, the digital economy is an effective way to support growth of the entire economy and global economic growth.
Ms. Jessy Carmelle Petit-Frère, Former Minister of Trade and Industry of Haiti, Professor of the Southern Public University, Haiti, shared the practice of digital economic activities in Haiti, when digital technology penetrates different areas of economic and social life, requiring workers to have dual competencies, which are professional skills and digital skills. The same goes for consumers, if they do not have good digital competencies, they will not be able to access and effectively use digital technologies and digital data to make decisions and protect their basic rights in the process of consuming and using products and services. Digital competencies become a requirement for workers and consumers and this is also a problem for authorities.
"The digital economy can make a difference in different areas. It puts countries in a unique position to increase digital development and connect people to services and jobs. The issue now is connectivity. A stable internet system is what Haiti needs. In addition, these opportunities will be captured thanks to the development of digital policies in digital education and the creation of innovation funds for youth, the development and promotion of local businesses to cooperate with foreign investors and new laws to support businesses to access and participate in building digital economic infrastructure," said Jessy Carmelle Petit-Frère.
While in traditional economic activities there is a clear boundary between the supply and demand sides, in the digital economy, this boundary becomes blurred and can be erased - there is almost no distance between suppliers and consumers. This completely changes the way the previous economy operates, and at the same time creates a new business environment - creating jobs and income for billions of people around the world, Vietnamese workers are no exception.
Assessing the potential of the digital economy and its impacts is also an effective way for Vietnamese policy makers to quickly research and resolve existing problems in information security, technology infrastructure, human resources, etc., so that digital economic growth meets expectations and contributes to overall growth.
