Japan imported 811.8 thousand tons of fruits and nuts from the Philippine market in the first 10 months of 2023, worth 105.1 billion yen (equivalent to 739.1 million USD), down 3.3% in volume, but up 12.9% in value over the same period in 2022, due to the average import price reaching 129.4 thousand yen/ton, up 16.8% over the same period in 2022, accounting for 52.6% of Japan's total imports. Followed by markets such as the United States, Mexico, New Zealand, Ecuador, etc.
Vietnam is the 12th largest supplier of fruits and nuts to Japan. The volume and value of imports from Vietnam increased sharply in the first 10 months of 2023, reaching 20.7 thousand tons, worth 4.6 billion Yen (equivalent to 32.4 million USD), up 38.8% in volume and 31.1% in value over the same period in 2022.
However, the import proportion from Vietnam is still very low, accounting for only 1.3% of Japan's total import volume. Therefore, there are still many opportunities for fruit and vegetable exporting enterprises to expand their market share in Japan in the coming time.
To boost fruit and vegetable exports to Japan, businesses need to pay attention that Japan is a market with very high standards for imported goods, especially fruits, so businesses need to ensure product quality and supply output.
