According to the US Embassy in Vietnam, during his visit to Ho Chi Minh City on November 9, CEO of the US International Development Finance Corporation (DFC) Scott Nathan said: "My return, just two months after participating in President Biden's historic visit, demonstrates DFC's commitment to supporting Vietnam's private economic sector."
With $737 million announced, Vietnam becomes DFC's largest market in Southeast Asia, with commitments made across priority sectors including energy, agriculture , health and small business support, DFC said.

“We are looking to further cooperate here to both strengthen the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership between the two countries and to unleash the resources of private capital and create more opportunity and prosperity for the people of Vietnam,” he added.
In Ho Chi Minh City, General Director Nathan also met with potential customers, leaders in the public and private sectors and beneficiaries of DFC projects.
In particular, he also met with a delegation of companies visiting Vietnam to seek more investment opportunities; shareholders investing in renewable energy and promoting the Just Energy Transition Partnership (JETP); and visited Fulbright University Vietnam - currently using a $37 million loan from DFC to build its main campus in Ho Chi Minh City.
Previously, in September 2023, Mr. Nathan also participated in US President Joe Biden's visit to Hanoi .
During the visit, he announced two new commitments that will nearly triple DFC’s portfolio in Vietnam – more than $400 million in financing to help expand access to finance for two major Vietnamese banks, VPBank and TPBank.
These investments are expected to boost lending to small businesses across the country, including women-owned businesses.
The U.S. International Development Finance Corporation partners with the private sector to provide financial solutions. It invests across a range of sectors including energy, health care, infrastructure, agriculture, small businesses, and financial services.
