Vietnam-Pakistan strengthen bilateral cooperation

On July 11, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Bui Thanh Son met with Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Pakistan, Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar on the occasion of attending the 58th ASEAN Foreign Ministers' Meeting in Malaysia.

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Bui Thanh Son received Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Pakistan Mohammad Ishaq Dar.

At the meeting, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Bui Thanh Son assessed that the Vietnam-Pakistan friendship and cooperation continued to develop well, with positive results in a number of areas such as trade, tourism and people-to-people exchange. The Deputy Prime Minister welcomed the two sides for successfully organizing the 5th Meeting of the Vietnam-Pakistan Joint Subcommittee on Trade and proposing specific measures to increase trade and investment cooperation; actively discussing towards negotiating and signing a bilateral free trade agreement.

Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Mohammad Ishaq Dar agreed with Deputy Prime Minister and Minister Bui Thanh Son's assessment of the bilateral cooperation and emphasized the role of the two Foreign Ministries in promoting delegation exchanges and high-level contacts, tourism and people-to-people exchanges; promoting the signing of agreements to create a legal framework such as the Agreement on mutual legal assistance, extradition and cooperation in crime prevention.

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister Mohamamad Ishaq Dar positively acknowledged the proposal to support Vietnam's candidacy for the position of Judge of the International Tribunal for the Law of the Sea (ITLOS) for the 2026-2035 term and hoped that Vietnam would support Pakistan to become a full Dialogue Partner of ASEAN.

The two sides agreed and affirmed to cooperate closely to exploit cooperation potentials, striving to soon reach a two-way trade turnover of 1 billion USD; create favorable conditions for business activities, further promote cooperation in the fields of telecommunications, electric vehicles, oil and gas, seafood and food processing, culture, tourism, and people-to-people exchange.

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister Mohamamad Ishaq Dar took note of the proposal to support Vietnam’s candidacy for the position of Judge of the International Tribunal for the Law of the Sea (ITLOS) for the 2026-2035 term and hoped that Vietnam would support Pakistan to become a full Dialogue Partner of ASEAN. Deputy Prime Minister and Minister Mohamamad Ishaq Dar respectfully invited Deputy Prime Minister and Minister Bui Thanh Son to visit Pakistan in 2025.
