Vietnam - Singapore strengthen cooperation in developing high-quality human resources

On the morning of October 20, in Hanoi, Deputy Minister of Labor, War Invalids and Social Affairs Le Van Thanh had a meeting with Mr. Zaqy Mohamad, Senior Minister of State in charge of Human Resources and Defense of Singapore.

At the reception, Deputy Minister Le Van Thanh assessed that despite many complex changes in the world and regional situation, the Vietnam - Singapore strategic partnership has been constantly consolidated and developed in depth.

"Currently, Singapore leads ASEAN and ranks second in the world in terms of investment capital in Vietnam with 3,095 projects, total capital of 70.8 billion USD, accounting for 22.9% of total registered FDI capital.

The VSIP model is operating very effectively, and at the same time opens up important opportunities to promote human resource cooperation between Vietnam and Singapore in the direction of knowledge-based economic cooperation," Deputy Minister Le Van Thanh assessed.

The Deputy Minister highly appreciated the development of skills and innovation in the two Memorandums of Understanding signed by the two sides during Singaporean Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong's recent visit to Vietnam. The Deputy Minister suggested that the two sides soon establish a joint working group to discuss and implement the activities to implement the two signed Memorandums of Understanding.

The Deputy Minister also said that Vietnam is building three National Centers for High-Quality Vocational Training and Practice to meet the human resource needs in the coming time. Therefore, Vietnam hopes that Singapore will support, exchange knowledge and improve capacity in high-quality training, especially related to the management, operation and teaching of the Centers.

In addition, the leaders of the Ministry of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs expressed their wish that Singapore would share its experience in building a labor market information data system; analyzing and forecasting career and employment trends; and improving the quality of employment services in the digital technology environment.

In the spirit of friendship and mutual learning, the two sides proposed many cooperation activities in the coming time (Photo: Nguyen Son).

The Deputy Minister proposed that Singapore consider officially accepting Vietnamese workers under the form of Work Permit Visa; expanding the industries that Singapore has demand for and strengthening cooperation in supplying crew members for transport ships.

Continue to support Vietnam in areas that are Singapore's strengths such as occupational safety and hygiene and labor inspection.

Thanking Deputy Minister Le Van Thanh for taking the time to welcome him, Mr. Zaqy Mohamad expressed his joy at the increasingly strong development of the strategic partnership between the two countries.

Mr. Zaqy Mohamad said that during this trip he brought many Singaporean businesses to Vietnam to seek development opportunities as well as support areas that Vietnam is interested in.

Mr. Zaqy Mohamad believes that the signing of the memorandum of understanding will open up opportunities for workers to work in both countries.

Regarding the proposals of the leaders of the Ministry of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs, the Senior Minister of State in charge of Human Resources and Defense of Singapore affirmed that, within its capacity, Singapore is ready to support and share experiences with Vietnam, especially in the fields of training high-quality human resources and occupational safety and hygiene.
