The Battle of The Pastry & Bakery 2025 competition took place in the coastal city of Penang (Malaysia) from July 18th to 20th, organized by the Penang Chefs Association (Malaysia), under the professional patronage of the World Chefs Association (Worldchefs).
The event brought together over 400 chefs from countries and territories such as Malaysia, Thailand, Taiwan, the Philippines, Indonesia, China, South Korea, Vietnam, and more. Teams competed in various categories: wedding cakes, artistic bread, sculpted chocolate, and decorative sugar creations.
The Vietnamese culinary delegation consists of 15 contestants from Ho Chi Minh City, Hanoi, Vinh Long, Da Nang, and Phu Quoc (An Giang), organized and led by the Saigon Chefs Association (under the Ho Chi Minh City Tourism Association) and the Vietnam Baking Association (under the Vietnam Tourism Association).
Under the guidance of Head Chef Le Thi Kieu Oanh (stage name Kieu Oanh - Cherry), the team excellently demonstrated their professional competence, fierce competitive spirit, and international stage presence.
Throughout the three days of competition, Vietnamese chefs captivated the judges with a series of impressive creations, from exquisite wedding cakes and artistic bread designs to intricate and lifelike sugar and chocolate sculptures.
In particular, chef Duong Minh Tri excelled, winning 3 individual Gold Medals and being honored with the "Best Chef of the Competition" award.
Immediately after the competition concluded, the Head of the Judging Panel - Chef Kenny Kong (Singapore) - sent an official letter to the Vietnam Tourism Association to congratulate the Vietnamese delegation.

In the letter, he wrote: "I witnessed the persistent effort, outstanding creativity, and wonderful teamwork of the Vietnamese team. Under the professional guidance of Head Chef Kieu Oanh - Cherry, they showcased exquisite skills, from wedding cakes to sugar art creations. This is a well-deserved and glorious victory."
On the afternoon of July 21st, immediately upon the delegation's return to Vietnam at Tan Son Nhat Airport (Ho Chi Minh City), Ms. Nguyen Thi Khanh - Vice President of the Vietnam Tourism Association and President of the Ho Chi Minh City Tourism Association - personally welcomed the delegation.
With 16 Gold Medals, 5 Silver Medals, 11 Bronze Medals, and 2 major trophies, including the Overall Championship Trophy and the Best Chef Trophy, this is a resounding victory that affirms the position of Vietnamese pastry making on the international culinary map.
