Vietnam Airlines in top 10 most punctual in Asia

UK-based aviation data analytics company Cirium has just released its annual On-Time Performance (OTP) report of global airlines based on operational efficiency and punctuality.
According to the report, Vietnam Airlines ranked 9th among the top 10 most punctual airlines in 2023 in the Asia- Pacific region, with an on-time flight rate of 77.46% out of a total of 150,674 flights. The on-time used to calculate Cirium's rate is that the aircraft must be at the gate within 15 minutes of the scheduled time and depart within 15 minutes of the initially announced time.

In the 2023 report, IndiGo, India's largest airline, ranked fourth in the list of most punctual airlines in Asia- Pacific . Japan's All Nippon Airways took the top spot, followed closely by Japan Airlines in second place and Thai Air Asia in third place. Cirum compiled the list by analyzing 600 real-time flight information sources, ensuring accuracy from airports, air navigation service providers, global distribution systems, airlines, location data, civil aviation authorities and exclusive data partnerships.
According to the report of the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam, in the past 11 months, the entire aviation industry has operated a total of 260,679 flights, a decrease of about 26,000 flights compared to the output of the same period in 2022. Notably, the Civil Aviation Authority recorded 221,229 on-time flights, accounting for 84.9%, down from the average of the same period in 2022 at 89.6%. This means that although the number of flights has decreased, the rate of delayed flights has still increased. Of which, Vietnam Airlines has an on-time take-off rate of 87.1% out of 82,272 flights.
