The Vietnam Research Conference (VietResCon), held on June 26 in Hanoi, is a pioneering event organized by Hanoi-Amsterdam High School for the Gifted and Vietnamese high school students studying in the US and some specialized schools in the country.

Not only an intellectual playground, VietResCon is also a place to nurture critical thinking, self-learning spirit, and especially confidence in doing science , an important factor that helps Vietnamese students be ready to step out into the world.

The workshop operates based on the peer-review model - a multi-round academic evaluation - commonly found at top universities in the US. This helps students get acquainted with the serious research process right from high school.

Speaking at the conference, Professor Do Dinh Thuan shared: "I am very impressed to see that high school students can organize a conference with full criticism, editing, and citation. These experiences will help them become more confident when entering the international academic environment."

The biggest difference of VietResCon is the empowerment of students. From the design of the workshop model, the scientific review process to the presentation of the paper, all are planned and implemented by the students according to international standards.

More than 500 invitations were sent by students to professors in the US, and received positive responses. Among them, Professor Colin K. Drummond (Case Western Reserve University, top 50 in the US) expressed his support for the creative and progressive spirit of Vietnamese students. The trust from international academics is a clear demonstration of the potential and capacity of the young generation of Vietnam.

In particular, the VietResCon workshop aims to guide high school students to be confident in their creativity, promote freedom of thinking, honesty and responsibility for knowledge. The organizers set the rule of “zero plagiarism” - no plagiarism, no copying, no using AI without citing the source. The workshop encourages students to choose topics that are close, practical and age-appropriate, thereby developing independent thinking and the ability to ask the right questions - core competencies in an international academic environment.

The professional support of professors from many American universities such as Florida Atlantic University, Illinois State University, University of Mount Union, etc. contributed to ensuring the high academic quality of the conference. In particular, Professor Do Dinh Thuan, currently an editor of 5 ISI scientific journals, directly advised VietResCon on how to organize the conference according to international standards.

Speaking at the workshop, Le Do Duc Anh, class 10 English 1, Hanoi-Amsterdam High School for the Gifted, said that he had been nurturing and researching the topic "Income gap in the context of urban differentiation in Hanoi" for 3 months under the guidance of Professor Do Dinh Thuan.

The research focuses on studying and analyzing the relationship between income inequality and urban segregation in Hanoi, in the context of rapid urbanization and increasing foreign investment. The research aims to identify spatial patterns of income segregation, its causes, and its impacts on access to employment, education , and quality of life. Qualitative research methods with in-depth interviews will provide evidence to propose policies for inclusive and sustainable urban development.

VietResCon is a journey to foster the spirit of openness, confidence, and creative thinking of Vietnamese students. With an annual expansion and orientation to become an annual event, VietResCon promises to be a launching pad to help Vietnamese students confidently create on their journey of studying abroad, becoming global citizens.
