Dien Bien's strength lies in historical tourism, associated with the Dien Bien Phu victory that "shook the world and resonated across continents." There are many famous and attractive historical sites such as: A1 Hill, the De Castries bunker, the Dien Bien Phu Victory Monument, the Dien Bien Phu Victory Museum, the Muong Phang Campaign Command Post… attracting a large number of domestic and international tourists.

Dien Bien, the northernmost province of Northwest Vietnam, has a natural area of over 9,562 km2 and a border of over 455 km bordering China and Laos. Dien Bien is also the only province in the Northwest region with an airport, recently upgraded to connect with Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City, giving it a significant advantage in attracting tourists. Besides its main attraction, the historical site of the Dien Bien Phu victory, Dien Bien also possesses rich potential for health and wellness tourism, with numerous hot springs, homestays, ecotourism, nature exploration, and experiences of the unique cultural identities of 19 ethnic groups such as the Mong, Thai, Dao, Ha Nhi, and Lao. Visitors to Dien Bien can experience traditional wooden stilt houses, enjoy traditional rice wine and unique ethnic dishes, and admire the charming Thai girls in their traditional costumes, adorned with sparkling silver bracelets and necklaces, gracefully performing the traditional Thai dances.

In 2023, Dien Bien province reached the milestone of welcoming one million tourists for the first time. Like Binh Thuan, Dien Bien hopes that the 2024 National Tourism Year, coinciding with the 70th anniversary of the Dien Bien Phu victory, will be a strong impetus for developing tourism into a key economic sector, so that Dien Bien will not only be a historical city but also a tourism center of the Northwest region.

Writer Vu Hanh wrote: In our lives, each of us should make an opportunity to visit Dien Bien Phu, to visit the old battlefield, as a journey back to our roots, to better see the blood and bones of countless heroic soldiers, the spirit and determination of talented leaders, and the torrent of sweat from generations of civilian workers who served the battlefield, contributing to transforming this place into a sacred site of unwavering resilience.
