VnExpressVnExpress01/01/2024

Ho Chi Minh City A 6-year-old girl was watching her older siblings play badminton when suddenly the racket flew off the handle and fell on her head, causing a brain hemorrhage.

On January 1, Dr. Nguyen Ngoc Pi Doanh, Department of Neurosurgery, Children's Hospital 2, said that the patient from Binh Phuoc was transferred in a deep coma, the wound on the top of the head had been stitched.

CT scan showed penetrating damage to the brain, from the front of the head to the back of the cerebellum, causing massive brain hemorrhage, compression and cerebral edema. Doctors performed emergency surgery to remove the hematoma and open the skull to relieve the pressure.

After 10 days of intensive post-operative care, the baby is recovering, opening his eyes and moving his arms and legs, and continues to be monitored.

"The baby shows signs of good recovery but will definitely have neurological sequelae due to severe brain damage. The baby cannot speak yet and the left side of his body is weak," said Dr. Doanh, adding that this was a rare but extremely dangerous household accident.

Doctors advise parents to be vigilant about objects that can easily injure children. For badminton rackets like this case, family members should check the equipment before use to prevent similar incidents.
