Patient Tran BC (13 years old, residing in Son Tra district, Da Nang city) suddenly fainted while practicing performing arts at school and was taken to Da Nang hospital in a deep coma and respiratory failure. Here, through diagnostic imaging, it was found that there was a large intracranial hemorrhage, severely compressing brain tissue.

The team of doctors from the Department of Neurosurgery in collaboration with the Department of Anesthesia and Resuscitation of Da Nang Hospital performed emergency surgery to open the skull, remove the hematoma and relieve the pressure, helping to reduce intracranial pressure and save the patient's life. After surgery, the patient underwent digital subtraction angiography (DSA), which determined a complex vascular malformation with an aneurysm at risk of rebleeding.

Neurosurgeons, Diagnostic Imaging and Anesthesiologists continued to perform radical surgery to remove all malformations and aneurysms. Thanks to the smooth coordination between the specialties, the patient recovered well, was alert, had almost normal limb movement and was discharged from the hospital.

Dr. Tra Tan Hoanh - Head of Neurosurgery Department, Da Nang Hospital said that stroke does not only occur in adults. In fact, Da Nang Hospital is receiving more and more cases of cerebral hemorrhage in children, mainly related to congenital vascular malformations. Early detection and treatment are key factors to save lives and limit sequelae.

After surgery, the patient recovered well, was alert, had almost normal limb movement and was discharged from the hospital.

He advised parents not to be subjective when their children show signs such as prolonged headaches, nausea, weakness in limbs, convulsions, and sudden loss of consciousness. Take your child for regular health check-ups and have a cerebral angiogram if you suspect any abnormalities; especially take your child to a specialized neurological facility with modern equipment as soon as emergency signs appear for timely diagnosis and intervention.

“Da Nang Hospital, with its team of experienced experts and effective coordination between clinical departments, is always ready to respond to pediatric neurological emergencies, providing the best chance of survival and recovery for children,” emphasized Dr. Tra Tan Hoanh.
