Nho Lam – Nghia Lo dyke is a multi-functional project, helping to prevent salinity, ensure agricultural production and is also the only vital route leading to flooded villages in Quang Dien commune. The dyke is about 5 km long, 3 m wide, 3.3 – 3.8 m high, and is built quite solidly.

However, due to the high water level of the Bo River during the recent flood, on the evening of November 4, a section of the dike in Niem Pho village broke and eroded about 7 meters. Floodwater from the Bo River overflowed into people's fields and crops.
Motor vehicles were dispatched to the scene to fix the problem.

The dike breach has paralyzed traffic, causing great difficulties for convoys of goods and necessities from volunteer groups to support people in flooded areas. To date, thousands of households in flooded areas are in need of assistance.
Racing against storms and weather
On November 6, despite the rain, more than 50 officers and soldiers from the Civil Defense Committee of Quang Dien commune, along with many local people, were still present at the scene to temporarily reinforce the dike.

Authorities have poured a lot of boulders, stone powder and used sacks of stones to temporarily reinforce the collapsed dike section.
Mr. Nguyen Anh Cau, Chairman of the People's Committee of Quang Dien Commune, said that since November 4, the locality has mobilized forces to quickly fix the problem. Thanks to reinforcement efforts, by noon on November 6, vehicles such as motorbikes and pedestrians could basically pass through. However, reinforcement work will continue throughout the day to ensure the flow of heavy vehicles.

Mr. Cau emphasized the importance of the route, especially in the face of complicated weather developments, when storm Kalmaegi (storm No. 13) makes landfall, which could cause heavy rain and continued flooding in Hue .
"This is a vital and only route, so it becomes even more important and urgent during the rainy and stormy season. We are trying to complete the temporary repair work by the afternoon of November 6," said Mr. Cau.
