Currently, the province has 647 schools with over 200,000 students. Recognizing the importance of life skills education in holistic development, the education sector has directed educational institutions to proactively integrate and organize many rich and practical activities, equipping students with increasingly diverse skills, from safe traffic participation, fire prevention and control, first aid, reproductive health care to accident and injury prevention, disaster response, self-protection against school violence, social evils, and even sophisticated online scams.
At the Provincial Ethnic Boarding High School, on the morning of November 3rd, after the weekly flag-raising ceremony, the school, in coordination with the Youth Committee of the Provincial Police, organized an extracurricular activity to raise awareness and disseminate knowledge about drug and e-cigarette prevention, guiding students on how to identify and avoid social evils. Ms. Nguyen Thanh Thao, the school's Deputy Principal, said: “This is just one of many activities we regularly organize. In the future, the school will continue to expand the forms of communication through competitions, forums, and practical experiences to help students develop essential life skills.”
At each educational level, life skills education is implemented in ways that are appropriate to the age group's psychology. In preschool and primary school, many schools integrate life skills education into lessons and experiential games, helping children develop habits of communication, cooperation, self-care, and self-protection.
At the lower and upper secondary levels, life skills education is integrated into Civics lessons, experiential activities, and educational field trips. Schools also establish various clubs such as life skills clubs, youth advocacy clubs, and clubs for preventing school violence, aiming to create a regular training environment for students. This flexible and approachable method has made life skills a natural part of school life, no longer just an "extra lesson" but a "skill for living well."
Not only limited to individual schools, the provincial education sector also directs the entire sector to organize numerous life skills education activities on a province-wide scale. Competitions such as: "Traffic Safety for a Brighter Tomorrow," "Mock Trial on School Violence," "Fire Prevention and Escape Drills," "Preventing Child Abuse," etc., are regularly implemented, attracting a large number of students to participate.
According to the Department of Education and Training's assessment, life skills education activities in schools have yielded clear results. Students are becoming more confident and assertive in communication, knowing how to share and cooperate, admitting and correcting mistakes, and exhibiting positive attitudes in learning and group activities. Many have proactively participated in social and charitable movements, showing concern for their friends and the surrounding environment. As a result, school behavior has significantly improved, contributing to building a safe, healthy, and happy educational environment.
