Steadfast in the rain and floods
The recent historic floods submerged many roads and residential areas in Hue City, disrupting people’s lives. Amidst the flooding, medical stations became a solid support for the community, where medical staff stayed to take care of people’s health.
Located in a low-lying area, Duong No Ward Health Station was flooded 1-1.2m deep at its peak. Dr. Nguyen Vu, Head of the station, said that during the days of floodwaters, 13 medical staff were on duty and organized accommodation for more than 30 patients, from children to the elderly.
In addition, the station safely delivered a pregnant woman, provided first aid and transferred cases of snake bites, bone stuck in throats and other household accidents, and examined and treated nearly 150 people.
"With a sense of responsibility, medical staff performed their medical examinations well, without interruption. Medicines, chemicals and medical equipment were all safely protected. Thanks to that, after the flood, no cases of disease have been recorded in the ward," said Dr. Nguyen Vu.

A woman gave birth in the flood at the Medical Station in My Thuong ward.
Meanwhile, in My Thuong ward, the flood from October 27 caused all 3 facilities of the station to be flooded, the first floor offices were flooded from 0.15-0.4m.
According to Dr. Tran Van Tuan, Head of the Ward Health Station, with the motto "4 on-site", the station has developed a plan to have 50% of its staff on duty during the prolonged rainy and flood days. During this time, medical staff safely intervened in the delivery of a pregnant woman with a history of asthma transferred from Phu Vinh commune, and at the same time organized the reception and medical examination and treatment for nearly 200 patients.
After the flood receded, the Health Station provided 20kg of Cloramin B chemicals and coordinated with local forces to handle environmental treatment for 33 facilities including kindergartens, primary schools, markets, crowded places and offices.
"Up to now, the post-flood disinfection has been completed, ensuring a safe environment. The station's equipment, machinery, medicines and chemicals are all safely protected, and medical examination and treatment work is maintained continuously without interruption," Dr. Tran Van Tuan informed.
According to the Hue City Department of Health, during the floods in late October, the entire health sector had 47 facilities flooded, including 35 medical stations and 12 hospitals and affiliated centers. Despite being heavily affected by the floods, medical examination and treatment activities at the facilities were still maintained stably, ensuring emergency and treatment work for the people.
