Case of receiving 200,000 VND but giving out 20 notebooks: Students have not received the money yet

On August 26, the Departmentof Education and Training of Da Nang said it had asked the Principal of Thai Phien High School to correct shortcomings in awarding students.

During the working process, the Department of Education and Training of Da Nang discovered a number of violations by the principal in school management and operation, including awarding prizes to students at the end of the 2022-2023 school year.

The Department of Education and Training of Da Nang has issued a document requesting the principal of Thai Phien High School to urgently overcome shortcomings and limitations, and report specifically on the implementation roadmap and results.

When the principal of Thai Phien High School overcomes the limitations and has a full report, the Da Nang Department of Education and Training will take the next steps in accordance with regulations.

It is known that on July 24, implementing the official dispatch of the Department of Education and Training, Mr. Nguyen Ba Hao, Principal of Thai Phien High School, issued a notice to excellent students of grades 10 and 11, school year 2022-2023 who received notebooks as prizes, to come to school to exchange for cash.

However, on August 7, the school announced that it would stop exchanging notebooks for cash and postpone this until the beginning of the 2024-2025 school year. Therefore, to date, the school has not refunded the money to the students.

The reporter has contacted Mr. Nguyen Ba Hao many times to learn more about the above issue but has not received any response from this principal.

Previously, on March 20, the Department of Education and Training of Da Nang received a complaint from citizens about the Principal of Thai Phien High School, allowing 654 excellent students in grades 10 and 11 in the 2022-2023 school year to sign to receive a bonus of 200,000 VND/student, but they only received 20 notebooks.

Parents and students said that each notebook they received had a retail price of 6,000 VND, which if converted into money would be much less than 200,000 VND. Parents wanted to receive the remaining amount after deducting the cost of the notebook.

Responding to the complaint, the leader of the Department of Education and Training of Da Nang concluded that the Principal of Thai Phien High School allowed excellent students to sign to receive cash of 200,000 VND each but only gave notebooks, which was not in accordance with the payment records.

The Da Nang Department of Education and Training also said that the school did not bid through the national bidding network. The principal decided to buy the notebooks.

Therefore, the Department of Education and Training of Da Nang requested the principal to return 138.4 million VND to students who signed for money but received notebooks; and to stop rewarding students with the form of having students sign for cash but discovering objects.
