Vu Lan Festival and the Rose on the Lapel

Báo Thanh niênBáo Thanh niên17/08/2024

Vu Lan Festival reminds everyone that everyone has a mother and is born from a mother, so gratitude to our mother is inevitable for all of us. Although Vu Lan Festival originated from China, when it entered Vietnamese society, Vu Lan Festival has taken on the Vietnamese mark, becoming a great ceremony of love and gratitude, quietly but deeply imbued, like the roses on the lapel that we have heard many times through the song "Bông hồng chỉ áo" - music by musician Pham The My, lyrics by Zen Master Thich Nhat Hanh.

The "roses on the lapel" on Vu Lan day are not only a reminder, but also a sacred promise of all children to their mothers. It is one of the most beautiful holidays of the year, in some ways, it has the same meaning as Thanksgiving in America.

Pagodas in Vietnam on this solemn day do not offer offerings at all, but remind us to look towards Vietnamese mothers who still live in poverty and hardship, and that the Vietnamese people's morality is not only to care for their own mothers, but also to care for those poor mothers who need help.

Thus, the meaning of Vu Lan festival will be expanded much more, enhanced by the kindness of Vietnamese people, and the spirit of sharing is the bridge that connects us closer together.

On this day, let's listen to the song "Rose on the Shirt" again, and spread the meaning of the song through charity activities. All for our mothers.

Rose brooch

(Poetry by Thich Nhat Hanh, music by Pham The My)

"A rose for you
A rose for you
And a rose for those who
For those who still have mothers
Still have mother to make the heart happier
If one day my dear mother is gone
Like a flower without sun
Like a child without a smile
I thought my life would never grow up
Like the sky without stars at night

Mom, you are a gentle stream
Mom, mom is a fairy song
Is the shade above
Is the eyes bright as the moon and stars
Be a torch in the night when lost

Mom, you are the sweet sugarcane
Mom, mom is a bunch of bananas and a bunch of areca nuts
Is the sound of crickets in the middle of the night
Is the warm sunshine of the mulberry fields
Is the capital of love for life

The pink flower you just pinned on your shirt
The pink flower you just pinned on your shirt
Please me, please me
Come be happy with me".
