Actively maintain control of the sea.

The southern continental shelf area, with the DK1 platform as its focal point, is home to numerous oil and gas facilities, international shipping routes, and large fishing grounds. The high density of vessels and the intertwined economic and security interests make this area inherently complex, requiring the forces on duty to be courageous, vigilant, and flexible in their strategies.

On March 19, 2009, the Ministry of National Defence signed a decision to establish Naval Region 2 , directly under the Navy, marking an important step in consolidating the organizational structure for managing and protecting the sovereignty of the sea, islands, and continental shelf in the South.

Currently, the unit manages a sea area of over 300,000 km², stretching from the north of Binh Thuan province to the end of the Ca Mau sea area, home to many key national economic projects. The vast territory and harsh natural conditions, however, are precisely the environment that has forged the will, courage, and organizational and command capabilities of its officers and soldiers.

Colonel Trieu Thanh Tung, Deputy Commander of Naval Region 2, affirmed that the unit always strictly adheres to orders from superiors, steadfastly pursuing the goal of firmly protecting the sovereignty of the sea, islands, and continental shelf in the South; handling situations with appropriate countermeasures; closely combining field operations with propaganda and defense diplomacy, contributing to maintaining a peaceful and stable environment at sea.

Over 17 years of development and growth, the unit has been awarded the First Class Order of National Defense, two Second Class Orders of National Defense, the Third Class Order of Military Merit, and numerous emulation flags from the Prime Minister. This is recognition of its efforts in strengthening its forces, improving training quality, and enhancing combat readiness.
