At the end of March 2026, the family of Ms. Nguyen Thi Minh Nhat Nhat (Thanh Minh village, Tien Dien commune) boldly switched from growing cantaloupe to growing Korean yellow honeydew melon. In the first season, she propagated more than 3,000 seedlings and planted them experimentally in greenhouses covering an area of 1,000 m² . Thanks to strict adherence to high-tech application procedures, the family's Korean yellow melon garden is thriving. Ms. Nguyen Thi Minh Nhat (on the right) said: " The plants grow and develop quickly, adapting well to the local climate and soil conditions. The melons are grown in greenhouses, which helps to limit pests and harmful insects." At this time, workers are harvesting cantaloupes to sell on the market.
Korean yellow melons have a growing period of 60-65 days; they weigh from 0.5 to 0.8 kg per fruit and sell for 35,000 to 40,000 VND per kg. "To ensure the melons grow well and yield high production, we only leave 1-2 fruits on each plant, and we cut off all the branches and leaves at the base to concentrate nutrients on the fruit," Ms. Nhat said. Korean melons, when ripe, have a light yellow color, a sweet taste, and a delicate aroma, making them quite popular in the market. According to Ms. Nhat, in order to successfully grow and sell the fruit at a relatively high price, clean production must be prioritized. The initial yield of the model reached over 3 tons of marketable fruit.
Locals and tourists alike enjoy viewing Korean yellow melons. To ensure a stable output, in addition to selling directly from the farm, Ms. Nhat's family also supplies traders and sells online. Korean yellow melons, with their short growing season and high yield, are opening up new economic development opportunities for farmers in Tien Dien commune and other localities in the province.
