However, at any Grand Slam, there are always interesting fairy tales to be told and Holmgren is telling his own story at the All England Club this year.

Fans used colorful phrases: "interesting fairy tale", "magical fairy tale", "strange Cinderella story" to describe "comeback king" Holmgren in the men's singles of Wimbledon 2025.

Before participating in the Grand Slam on grass in London this year, Holmgren (born in 1998 in Helsingor) was just an unknown person on the ATP Tour. He had never even passed the qualifying round to participate in any Grand Slam main draw. But Holmgren's resilient, tenacious, and unyielding performance at SW19 against players who were ranked higher and also much more famous, is making the whole world admire and highly appreciate him.

In the first round, facing Quentin Halys (France, world top 50, ATP rank 46), Holmgren defeated his opponent after only 3 sets. In the second round recently, facing Tomas Machac (Czech Republic, top 30, ATP rank 23), Holmgren won even more dramatically...

Despite being down 1-2 after the first three games, then down 4-5 in the fourth game and facing three match-point threats, the third-ranked Danish tennis player fought to the end, saving all three early losses. He came back to win the fourth game, then won the fifth game with a final score of 7-6 (7-5), 6-7 (8-10), 6-7 (5-7), 7-5 and 7-6 (winning 10-5 in the super tie-break). With this result, Holmgren entered the third round of Wimbledon for the first time in his life.

Holmgren’s performance stats were impressive: 35 aces, 81 winners, and a break-point save rate of 90% (with 9/10 saves being successful). It’s hard to believe that these are stats from a player ranked near the bottom of the world’s top 200 who has never played a Grand Slam before. “I feel very happy. It was just a great match,” Holmgren excitedly shared.

In round 3, Holmgren will face Alex de Minaur (Australia, ranked 182 places above him on the ATP rankings). This is an opponent completely different in class and ability from the less-known Danish player. But the fairy tale has been told, will it last or end in round 3, still making many people unable to forget!

At SW19 that day, there was an outsider named Holmgren, very proud and resilient, determined not to surrender...
