According to Tin Tuc , a VNA reporter reporting from the US, police responded to an emergency call from SoundThinking (formerly ShotSpotter, known for its gunshot location service) at the 2000 block of West 52nd Street shortly after 9:00 p.m. on April 13 (9:00 a.m. on April 14, Hanoi time) and upon arrival, they discovered at least 11 victims of gunshot wounds.
Police said the 8-year-old girl was shot in the head and was later pronounced dead at Comer Children's Hospital.
A 1-year-old boy and an 8-year-old boy were shot multiple times in the abdomen and both were taken to an area hospital in critical condition.

VTV reported that the injured people - who were standing outside the door at a family gathering at the time of the shooting - were taken by the Chicago Fire Department to area hospitals.
The investigation is still in its early stages, but eyewitness accounts describe two possible gunmen on foot, Jerome said.
"This was not a random act of violence. It may have been gang-related," Jerome said. "Regardless of the motive, three innocent children were attacked tonight and one of them tragically died from his injuries. The actions of the perpetrators are horrific and unacceptable in our city."
According to a witness, a man driving a black four-seater sedan fired dozens of shots at people in the area before fleeing south on Damen Avenue. No suspects have been arrested at this time and police are actively investigating.
