Defeating Indonesia, U23 Vietnam won the U23 Southeast Asian Championship for the third time
"It was a boring match. The U23 Indonesia team only played in the midfield and home field. Meanwhile, U23 Vietnam played intelligently with counter-attacking defense tactics.
They won in terms of quality, especially in their individual ball control. Meanwhile, we easily lost the ball," Indonesian football expert Toni Ho said after the 0-1 defeat of the Indonesia U23 team against Vietnam U23 in the final match of the Southeast Asian U23 Championship held at Bung Karno Stadium on the evening of July 29.
According to Toni Ho, the blocking tactics in the midfield of U23 Vietnam limited the flow of the ball to the midfielders of the U23 Indonesia team. This made it seem that coach Gerald Vanenburg's team could not develop their play in the midfield.
"U23 Indonesia seems to be playing without midfielders. U23 Vietnam forced U23 Indonesia to play on the wings. When they had the ball, U23 Vietnam's full-backs were ready to block the ball, not letting it reach their defense," said expert Toni Ho.

Mr. Toni Ho also said that it was natural for coach Kim Sang Sik to use the tactic of blocking the ball and provoking the opponent when U23 Vietnam faced U23 Indonesia.
"U23 Vietnam does not need to play fair. They just want to win at all costs. They play negative football, with provocative words and often fall and have cramps on the field," he said.
The U23 Vietnam player was also assessed by Indonesian football experts as smart when he often kicked the ball far from the defensive area.
"They anticipated Roby Darwis' throw-in. That's why U23 Vietnam also cleared the ball far away from the defense. This disappointed our players," he said.
Meanwhile, the Indonesian U23 team lacked creative players, making many people feel like they were playing a formulaic match.
"The ball lingered behind the defense. Then it was passed high. Meanwhile, the strikers did not move much to find space. This made it easier for the opponent to mark the U-23 Indonesian players," expert Toni Ho concluded the reason why the home team lost to U23 Vietnam.
