Productivity, quality
The nearly 5-hectare garden of Mrs. Pham Thi Thu Hien (Bac Song Giang village) has more than 400 rambutan trees about 20 years old, with an annual yield of approximately 20 tons. When the season comes, traders come to the garden to buy. In addition, Mrs. Hien's family also grows 350 grapefruit trees, 200 durian trees and some jackfruit, tangerine, banana trees... "My family chooses organic farming methods to combine agricultural production with landscape. Thanks to that, the fruit trees in the garden have a very delicious flavor, are safe and of high quality," Mrs. Hien shared.
In the garden of Ms. Le Thi Kim Thanh (Suoi Lach village), hundreds of rambutan trees are bearing fruit at the same time. Ms. Thanh said that her family planted 900 rambutan trees on an area of about 3 hectares; each variety has its own characteristics. Sugar rambutan produces large, thick fruit that lasts a long time; Thai rambutan has thin, crispy skin, thick flesh, and a sweet taste; Tien Cuong rambutan is a new variety, sweet, thick flesh, and lasts a long time. The current selling price is about 40,000 VND/kg of sugar rambutan, 50,000 VND/kg of Thai rambutan, and 60,000 VND/kg of Tien Cuong rambutan. Through discussion, some farmers said that although this year's weather has been erratic, affecting the flowering and fruiting process, each rambutan tree still produces nearly 100kg of fruit, bringing in a significant source of income for farmers.
Extract more value
According to garden owners, rambutan trees are easy to grow, easy to care for, and have good resistance to sun and rain. Flowering and fruiting are almost natural, without much impact. Every time the rambutan season comes, many tourists come to experience and enjoy bunches of ripe red rambutan right on the tree, or excitedly harvest rambutan to bring home as gifts.
Ms. Nguyen Thuy Bich Chinh - Permanent Vice President of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of the commune, President of the Farmers' Association of Trung Khanh Vinh commune said that along with green-skinned grapefruit, rambutan trees are also very suitable for the weather, soil and cultivation conditions of the people here. According to statistics, about 20 hectares of rambutan have been developed in the commune. Grasping the demand and to increase the value, some households have begun to take care of their gardens, associated with production as an interesting and attractive experience point, attracting people and tourists to visit, harvest and enjoy rambutan right in the garden. In the coming time, the commune will continue to expand and develop rambutan trees in the direction of improving quality. Along with that are solutions to find stable output for this crop, including exploiting more experience and ecological values for rambutan gardens cultivated using organic and safe methods.
Trung Khanh Vinh Commune is a locality with unique ethnic minority cultural features. Therefore, in order for the fruit gardens in Trung Khanh Vinh Commune to truly become an attractive eco -tourism destination for visitors, in addition to grapefruit and rambutan, gardeners need to diversify other crops; combine the enjoyment and experience of harvesting agricultural products with the activities of planting, caring for trees, and processing dishes from fruits; and at the same time, combine with performances and cultural activities of indigenous ethnic minorities to increase the experience for visitors.
