VnExpressVnExpress02/07/2023

HAGL and SLNA failed to make an effort, while Hai Phong, Binh Dinh and Nam Dinh won the last three spots in the top 8 to compete for the championship in the second phase of V-League 2023.

At the end of the final round of the first phase on the afternoon of July 2, the eight championship teams were determined to be Hanoi Police (CAHN), Thanh Hoa, Hanoi FC, Viettel , Hai Phong, Binh Dinh, Nam Dinh and Ha Tinh.

The surprise happened when the three top teams all lost with a score of 0-1 . Hanoi FC and Thanh Hoa both fell at home to SLNA and Hai Phong respectively, while Hanoi Police (CAHN) were defeated by the bottom team Da Nang. Meanwhile, Viettel won by a narrow margin against Ho Chi Minh City FC, creating a narrow gap in points between the top 4, with the difference between the two adjacent teams being one point.

At home on August 19, Nha Trang, goalkeeper Dang Van Lam made an own goal, but Rafaelson's double helped Binh Dinh win an important 2-1 victory over direct competitors HAGL. Nam Dinh scored three goals in the first 30 minutes when playing away at Binh Duong, but still won a heart-stopping victory when Rimario scored two goals. This result created a trio of 19 points for Hai Phong, Binh Dinh and Nam Dinh. Ha Tinh drew 0-0 with Khanh Hoa to finish eighth with 18 points.

The group of six teams competing for relegation includes SLNA, HAGL, Khanh Hoa , Da Nang, Ho Chi Minh City and Binh Duong. Although not in the top eight, the victory over Hanoi helps SLNA - ranked ninth - to confidently compete for relegation with nine points more than the bottom team. The unexpected three points against CAHN also helped Da Nang cede the last position to Binh Duong - the only team yet to win in V-League 2023.

CAHN, Hanoi FC and Viettel are all in the championship race, and have chosen Hang Day as their home stadium, so the organizers have applied the rules agreed upon before the season. Accordingly, the lowest ranked team of the three, Viettel, will have to choose another stadium as their home stadium in the second phase. It is expected that Viettel will choose My Dinh Stadium.

After the final round of matches in phase one, V-League 2023 will take a break to make way for the round of 16 and quarter-finals of the 2023 National Cup taking place from July 6 to July 12. By the end of tomorrow, July 3, the organizing committee will close the mid-season transfer market and finalize the list of players for each team.
