The teams will play a round robin to decide which team will advance. The top teams in each group will qualify directly for the 2026 World Cup. The second-placed teams in each group will advance to the 5th qualifying round of the 2026 World Cup to determine the Asian representative to compete in the Intercontinental Play-off.
Up to this point, Asia has determined 6 places to attend the World Cup: Iran, Korea, Jordan, Uzbekistan, Japan and Australia.
Notably, the 4th qualifying round of the 2026 World Cup will be played “rolling” from October 8-14. Group A will be played in Qatar, Group B will be held in Saudi Arabia.
Indonesia have faced both Saudi Arabia and Iraq in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers. In the third qualifying round, the Indonesian team won 1 and drew 1 against Saudi Arabia. In the second qualifying round, Indonesia lost both matches against Iraq.

However, in the matches against Iraq, Indonesia used a squad with many naturalized players in the early days. The quality of Indonesia's naturalized players at this time is much better than at that time.
Indonesia's goal is to qualify for the 2026 World Cup. Indonesia is currently the Southeast Asian representative who has advanced the furthest in the World Cup qualifiers. Therefore, they do not want to miss the golden opportunity. To serve this goal, Garuda (the nickname of the Indonesian team) replaced coach Shin Tae Yong and used Dutch coach Patrick Kluivert.
