According to the cooperation agreement, food waste generated from the MMVN system will be received, sorted, and transformed by Food Bank Vietnam into raw materials for community garden models, organic fertilizer production, and other environmentally friendly forms of reuse.

The two sides also collaborated to develop a transparent, traceable, and compliant process for receiving, transporting, and handling goods.

The program is part of the Green Hero Solution project – a sustainable development initiative implemented by Food Bank Vietnam in collaboration with the Youth Union of the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment , the Danish Embassy in Vietnam, and partners to promote green circular solutions in the food, agriculture, and consumer sectors.

Mr. Nguyen Tuan Khoi, Chairman of Food Bank Vietnam, stated that reducing food loss and waste is not only an environmental responsibility but also contributes to building a more sustainable consumer and retail ecosystem.

According to Mr. Khoi, the Green Hero Solution project aims to connect businesses, communities, and development organizations to form a circular ecosystem from collection, sorting, reuse, to resource regeneration for agriculture and the environment.

Initially, the program will be piloted at MM Mega Market Binh Phu (Ho Chi Minh City) with a number of specific product groups. After collection, the materials will be processed and reused in community models within the Food Bank Vietnam ecosystem.

Ms. Tran Kim Nga, Director of External Relations at MMVN, stated that since 2023, the company has implemented a process for sorting and collecting surplus food at several branches such as An Phu, Da Nang, and Hong Bang, thereby effectively managing over 500 tons of food waste.

Through this collaboration, the company expects to further expand the project across its entire system in the future, while simultaneously reducing environmental impact in the supply chain and enhancing social responsibility.
