Building a new cultural lifestyle in Muong Lat district

Nhi Son commune has 6 Mong ethnic minority villages, accounting for over 90% of the commune's population. Previously, due to the intellectual level as well as customs and practices of the Mong ethnic minority, there were still many backward customs, especially the problems of "early marriage", "demanding dowry", leaving the deceased in the house for a long time... leading to the people's already difficult life becoming even more difficult. However, at present, backward customs that are costly to the people have been pushed back, and the Mong ethnic minority in Nhi Son commune are joining hands with the local government to maintain and implement a new cultural lifestyle.

To achieve the above results, according to comrade Lau Van Duc, Secretary of the Nhi Son Commune Party Committee, the locality has implemented many measures and methods of "Smart Mass Mobilization", including organizing Mong people to sign a commitment to implement a new lifestyle, while promoting propaganda and mobilization work to each village, each family, and clan... Thereby, people's awareness has been increasingly raised. Up to now, 6 Mong villages in the commune have carried out the practice of putting the deceased in a coffin; the situation of early marriage and incestuous marriage has significantly decreased.

Muong Lat district has 39 Mong ethnic villages, located in 6 communes of Trung Ly, Muong Ly, Pu Nhi, Tam Chung, Trung Ly, Nhi Son, with 3,533 households, 19,170 people, accounting for 44.1% of the district's population. In general, Mong ethnic people in the district are in extremely difficult situations, many backward customs are still deeply rooted, becoming daily habits of the ethnic people. Therefore, in order to gradually eliminate, while preserving and promoting good traditional cultural values, Muong Lat district issued Plan No. 179/KH-UBND dated September 7, 2021 on the implementation of propaganda work to implement cultural lifestyles in funerals of Mong ethnic people in Muong Lat district for the period 2021-2025.

To carry out the above tasks, the district has established a propaganda committee to mobilize the implementation of cultural lifestyles in Mong ethnic funerals at district, commune and village levels; coordinate with border guards and interdisciplinary teams to carry out propaganda, dissemination and education on laws and cultural lifestyles in funerals in villages where Mong ethnic people live. Propaganda work is also carried out at village and hamlet meetings; through the grassroots radio system; integrate propaganda on "Implementing lifestyles in funerals", "Reducing early marriage and incestuous marriage" in 6 communes with Mong ethnic people... Thereby, helping people raise awareness about implementing new cultural lifestyles, focusing on economic development, hunger eradication and poverty reduction.

Along with the propaganda work on building a new cultural lifestyle, Muong Lat district also focuses resources on investing in infrastructure for the Mong ethnic minority area. Specifically, arranging and stabilizing the population, associated with the construction of new rural areas; implementing programs, projects and policies for ethnic minorities in general, the Mong ethnic minority in particular; implementing programs and projects under the National Target Program on socio-economic development in ethnic minority areas, period 2021-2025 in Mong villages. Accordingly, it has invested in, renovated and repaired cultural houses - sports areas in Kham 1 and Kham 2 villages, Trung Ly commune; construction of roads in Ca Noi village, Pu Nhi commune; arranging and stabilizing the population in Un village, Muong Ly commune; building a centralized domestic water system in the villages: Pom Khuong, Tam Chung commune; Ca Noi village, Pu Nhi commune; Pa Bua village, Trung Ly commune; build effective livelihood models, thereby helping people develop the economy, eliminate hunger and reduce poverty sustainably.

Up to now, the Mong ethnic minority area in Muong Lat has had over 100 models, typical collectives and individuals that have been maintained and developed well, contributing to creating jobs and improving people's lives. Hunger eradication and poverty reduction in the Mong ethnic minority area has received attention, the annual poverty rate has decreased by 8% or more...

Comrade Ha Van Ca, Secretary of Muong Lat District Party Committee, said: With the drastic participation of the entire political system from the district to the grassroots level; the consensus of all classes of people, the construction of a new lifestyle among the district's ethnic minorities in general, and the Mong ethnic minorities in particular, has been promoted and spread strongly, with the aspiration to constantly improve the material and spiritual life of the people.

For the tasks in the coming time, the district will continue to promote the movement "All people unite to build a cultural life" and the campaign "All people unite to build a new rural area, civilized urban area" associated with building a new rural area in ethnic minority areas in the district; continue to carry out propaganda activities on building a new cultural lifestyle, with diverse, rich, innovative, creative, sustainable forms, arousing the voluntary and self-awareness of all classes of people.
