Mr. Ha Van Sinh, Director of Co Lung Duck Breeding Development Cooperative, takes care of the duck flock.
Co Lung commune is surrounded by the Nam Ba, Nam Muoi, Pha Le, and Pu Luong ranges. This land is located at an altitude of 800m above sea level, so the climate is cool all year round. The Nua stream flowing through Co Lung commune is an ideal environment for poultry to live. The farm of Mr. Ha Van Sinh's family, Director of Co Lung duck breeding development cooperative, is located along the Nua stream in La Ca village. Under the canopy of the forest, he built solid barns, divided into large and small compartments to raise meat ducks, egg-laying ducks, and breeding ducks...
With the concern of how to develop the Co Lung duck breed, Mr. Sinh went everywhere to find genuine parent ducks for breeding. In 2016, the project "Application of scientific and technological advances to restore and develop high-quality native Co Lung duck breed" was implemented in the communes of the old Ba Thuoc district. Thanks to the support of the local government, his family's duck flock gradually increased, from a few dozen to thousands. Mr. Sinh said: "Co Lung ducks are native animals, so they do not need time to adapt to the climate and soil. In particular, the water source of Nua stream flows all year round, is clear, has a lot of food, so the ducks grow quickly, and have delicious meat. In addition to full vaccination, the ducks released on this stream have almost no significant diseases."
Mr. Sinh releases commercial ducks into the stream from 9am and habitually returns by 4pm until feeding time. It takes more than 5 months to raise them for sale, with each duck weighing an average of 1.9 to 2.2kg. Co Lung ducks have a higher selling price than other types of ducks. In addition to raising commercial ducks, in 2024, he will invest in buying an incubator, proactively supplying ducklings to his family and serving people in the commune. Revenue from selling ducklings and commercial ducks brings his family an income of 250 to 300 million VND/year.
To encourage local people to raise Co Lung ducks, in 2017, Mr. Sinh established the Co Lung duck farming development cooperative with 12 members. Members of the cooperative are trained in farming techniques, disease prevention, supply of breeds, quality food, and consumption of all products at agreed prices. This is truly a way to help many households have the opportunity to develop their economy and increase their income. In 2018, the Co Lung duck farming development cooperative was granted VietGAP certification. In 2021, the Co Lung duck products of the cooperative were certified with 3-star OCOP.

Following Mr. Sinh's example, many households in the commune have participated in raising Co Lung ducks. For example, in Long village, Co Lung Duck Breeding Company Limited is cooperating with 40 households to develop this specialty duck breed. In 2023, the company successfully developed Tuan Anh Co Lung ducks into a 3-star OCOP product. Mr. Nguyen Ngoc Tuan, representative of Co Lung Duck Breeding Company Limited, said: "Each year, the company supplies tens of thousands of commercial ducks to the market. In addition, the company also invests in 3 incubators to provide breeds to people."
In November 2020, the Department of Intellectual Property, Ministry of Science and Technology granted a certificate of geographical indication registration for Co Lung duck. The geographical area includes Pu Luong and Co Lung communes. This has contributed to increasing the value of the product, creating motivation for people to spread the brand further and further.
Co Lung ducks are often raised naturally, suitable for the climate of the mountainous communes in the West of the province. Therefore, Co Lung ducks are now not only raised in Co Lung and Pu Luong communes, but also in other communes such as Quan Son, Quan Hoa, Thach Thanh... to multiply and develop into OCOP products.
