Tourism “ambassadors”
According to Tran Thi Nhat Phuong (receptionist at Fusion Suites Da Nang), in the service industry in general and the hotel industry in particular, service quality plays an extremely important role. In addition to the physical and technical factors (rooms, food, drinks, etc.), the attitude and behavior of the staff is a decisive factor in attracting and retaining tourists.
Ms. Nhat Phuong shared: “Hotel receptionists are the first department to contact guests, so they must always smile. We identify that guest satisfaction is the joy of service workers. However, to do that, I have to practice regularly, improve my behavioral and communication skills because it is not only a job but also the image of the unit and more deeply, it contributes to building the city's hospitality brand. The city's promulgation of the Da Nang Tourism Culture Criteria is very necessary, helping those working in the service and tourism industry to implement the standards according to the set criteria."
According to Ms. Nguyen Thi Thanh Minh (tour guide of Saigontourist Travel Company), in order for tourists to like and love the destination, the tour guide himself must have a deep understanding of the destination and have the skills to fully convey it to tourists; in addition, attitude is also something to note. Only then can tour guides complete their personal work better, and at the same time become cultural and tourism ambassadors of the city.
Many destinations under the management of public service units have also continuously improved and enhanced the quality of tourist services. Mr. Nguyen Van Hien, Head of the Management Board of Ngu Hanh Son Scenic Relics, said that in recent times, the unit has implemented well the movements of "4 xin" and "4 always" to bring satisfaction to tourists when coming to Ngu Hanh Son Scenic Relics.
Improve the quality of tourism services
According to Ms. Nguyen Thi Hoai An, Deputy Director of the Department of Tourism, the city pays special attention to developing human resources and improving the quality of tourism services. In 2024, the tourism industry will organize 21 programs including 7 knowledge update classes for tour guides, 8 information exchange programs and discussing solutions to attract domestic and international tourist markets, and 6 seminars to exchange, share and guide to improve professional skills for human resources in the tourism industry... In December, two major competitions will be held for tour guides and receptionists: the 2024 Da Nang Excellent Tour Guide Competition and the 2024 Da Nang Hotel Receptionist Competition.
“In the overall success of the tourism industry in 2024, there are contributions from those who directly contact tourists. Because even if there are unique tourism products, if the tourism workers themselves are not professional, they will not be able to attract and retain tourists to come and return many times. In the context of fierce competition between destinations, tourism workers must improve themselves, improve their skills, and contribute to creating the quality of destinations,” said Ms. Hoai An.
According to the Department of Tourism, the City People's Committee recently issued Document No. 2689/QD-UBND on promulgating the Da Nang Cultural Tourism Criteria. The criteria apply to two groups of subjects: agencies, organizations, and individuals at the destination (including organizations and individuals operating in the tourism sector in the city; State management agencies for tourism in the city, tourism training establishments, and city residents) and groups of domestic and international tourists to the city.
The set of criteria guides civilized and cultural behavior, attitudes, and manners in tourism activities, helping to better organize tourism activities in the city from both sides: agencies, organizations, individuals at the destination and tourists. At the same time, building and maintaining the image of a green, clean, beautiful, civilized, hospitable, safe and sustainably developing tourist city with its own identity, creating a distinct appeal for the destination from positive habits and behaviors in daily activities.
In particular, the 5 cultural criteria for tourists visiting and staying in the city include: Traffic culture criteria, voluntarily complying with traffic laws; not violating and assisting in violations of laws and traffic safety and order. Regarding the cultural criteria of behavior, maintaining order, not having uncivilized behaviors in public places, respecting culture and behaving politely with the local community; behaving culturally on the internet, wearing polite and discreet clothing when visiting historical and cultural relics and spiritual sites.
Regarding the cultural criteria of supporting local economic development, it is necessary to encourage and support businesses that are responsible for the environment and society. Regarding the cultural criteria of environmental protection, it is necessary to maintain public hygiene in public places - save energy - protect the environment and ecosystem. Propaganda and orientation for tourists on basic criteria of cultural behavior at destinations and recommendations for inappropriate behaviors, aiming to improve the relationship between tourists and the destination of Da Nang.
