Speaking to Tuoi Tre Online on the evening of April 7, Colonel Pham Gia Chien, Head of the Traffic Police Department of Lao Cai Province Police, said that the unit is coordinating with other forces to investigate the cause of a series of accidents between three passenger buses on the road from Sa Pa to Lao Cai City that left one person dead.

Initial information, at around 2:30 p.m. the same day, a passenger bus with a Hanoi license plate carrying 45 passengers driven by Nguyen Van H. (39 years old, living in Hanoi) was traveling from Sa Pa town to Lao Cai city.

When arriving at Coc San commune, it collided with a 45-seat passenger van with Quang Ninh license plate driven by Nguyen Manh T. (43 years old, from Hanoi) traveling in the same direction.

After that, the Hanoi passenger bus continued to collide with a 45-seat passenger bus with a Phu Tho license plate driven by Mr. Hoang Viet C. (37 years old, from Bac Giang) that was parked for repairs.

The collision caused many guardrail posts to break, the Phu Tho bus was thrown into a drainage ditch, severely damaged, one passenger was injured and had to be taken to the emergency room. Many other passengers panicked.

According to Colonel Chien, the initial cause was determined to be that the Hanoi passenger bus lost its brakes and collided with two other passenger buses.

The rear-end collision caused the bus that was stopped for repairs to swerve forward, seriously injuring a passenger. Although the victim was taken to the provincial General Hospital for emergency treatment, he died.

Immediately after the accident, authorities and road management units were present at the scene to direct traffic and coordinate the investigation into the cause of the accident.
