According to Canalys research, the smart wearable device market in the first quarter of 2025 has just witnessed "small grain of rice" Xiaomi surpass Apple, becoming the largest global supplier.

The wearables business has been doing well in the last quarter, with sales up 13% year-on-year to 46.6 million units. The bright spot is the low-cost wearables segment, which is popular in emerging markets and is also Xiaomi’s strength.

Thanks to impressive growth, Xiaomi has become the world's largest manufacturer of smart wearable devices with 19% market share, followed by other giants including Apple (16%), Huawei (15%), Samsung (11%) and Garmin (4%).

“Xiaomi upgrades the Mi Band and Redmi Watch product lines with fresh designs and advanced data analytics, bringing comprehensive features down to price segments, boosting product value,” said Canalys analyst Jack Leathem.

Xiaomi shipped 8.7 million units in the last quarter, up 44% year-on-year. The Redmi Band 5 played a significant role in this success. However, the key factor is the HyperOS platform, which acts as a central link between phones, wearables and home appliances.

Meanwhile, the Apple Watch had a relatively quiet quarter. Shipments increased 5% to 7.6 million units. The numbers echo a recent report from Counterpoint , which highlighted sluggish growth for the Apple Watch for two years in a row.

In the rest of the market, Huawei held onto third place with 7.1 million devices, thanks to strong sales from the GT and Fit series and the growth of the Huawei Health app globally.

Samsung ranked fourth but had the highest sales growth rate among the top five vendors, up 74% quarter-on-quarter to 4.9 million devices. The Korean company balances both the basic strap and smartwatch market segments. Garmin ranked fifth with 1.8 million products and a 10% increase compared to Q1 2024.
