From a remote village, Mung hamlet has gradually built itself into a community tourist destination, attracting visitors with hills filled with flowers.
Mung Hamlet is located at the highest point of Hop Phong Commune, Cao Phong District, Hoa Binh Province, with a cool climate in the summer. In particular, Mung Hamlet is considered the green lung of the province with 520 hectares of natural forest being protected and nurtured by the locals. Since 2011, the road to the hamlet has been concreted, making it convenient for vehicles to enter and exit, said Mr. Bui Van Hieu, head of Mung Hamlet.
Recently, the yellow butterfly flower hill in Mung hamlet has attracted many tourists to visit and take photos.
"The whole space is filled with the yellow color of butterfly flowers, as beautiful and poetic as in cartoons," Trang Pham Thi Trang (24 years old, Hanoi ) said after traveling about 30 km by motorbike from the center of Hoa Binh city to the flower hill on May 31. At 6 am, many tourists had arrived, Trang advised everyone to go early in the morning to avoid the harsh sunlight and crowds.
According to Mr. Hieu, 200 meters from the yellow butterfly flower hill, on the top of the mountain about 900 meters high, there are also patches of pink butterfly flowers and cherry blossoms. From the top, you can see the whole area, the ancient banyan tree and yellow butterfly flowers below. Tourists can also go to the homestay and glamping area to stay overnight and hunt clouds on days with favorable weather.
In addition, Mung hamlet also has a bamboo forest with a path about 300 m long for visitors to take pictures and relax. The road to the bamboo forest is quite difficult to travel, nearly 3 km from the flower hill, requiring a tour guide. or a local guide. Visitors can enjoy the view of the ripe rice season on the terraced fields from here. The rice in Mung village ripens late, and people will start harvesting it in about two weeks.
Since 2021, a number of investors have come to Mung hamlet to invest in tourism development. Ms. Pham Thuy, owner of a homestay and glamping site, has invested in planting flower hills on people's terraced fields since February this year along with a bamboo forest.
Mr. Hieu added that in addition to butterfly flowers, more than 200 cherry trees are planted on the hill. In addition, there are 250 apricot cherry trees forming a flower path stretching around the terraced fields, in the gardens of all households in Mung hamlet. In spring, visitors coming here will admire the pink color of flowers covering the entire path of the hamlet.
In previous years, tourists to Mung village were few and far between. But since the flower hill began welcoming visitors on May 22, the number of visitors has reached nearly 4,000. The entrance fee collected (VND20,000 for visitors from Hoa Binh, VND30,000 for visitors from other provinces) has helped to improve the lives of the locals, Mr. Hieu said.

Mung Hamlet is located about 12 km from National Highway 6 from Hanoi to Son La, so it is convenient for tourists to visit along the way. Mr. Hieu has proposed to the higher authorities to develop a plan and orientation to develop Mung Hamlet into a community tourism destination. Next year, the hamlet will restore the ancient stilt houses on the terraced fields, build a gallery, revive the traditional cultural features of the Muong ethnic group, and attract tourists to learn and experience.
