Glorious tradition
During the resistance war against French colonialism and American imperialism, Quang Ninh youth enthusiastically enlisted in the army, joined the Youth Volunteer Force, and volunteered to undertake arduous tasks on the front lines. Many of them directly participated in opening roads, transporting goods, and repairing bridges and culverts under the rain of bombs and bullets, contributing to ensuring the traffic arteries for combat.
A special historical milestone was on July 15, 1967, when the Quang Ninh Youth Volunteer Force N.78 was established in the mountainous forest area of Yen Tu - the Fourth War Zone of Dong Trieu. The force consisted of 800 members who were children of ethnic groups in the province, shouldering the responsibility of ensuring traffic for military service during the fierce resistance war against the US.
On the 80km route from Binh Khe ward to Quang La commune, cadres and members of the Youth Volunteer Team N.78 steadfastly overcame danger to transport weapons, food, and medicine to the front line. The Youth Volunteer Team also participated in restoring the Kenh Dong - Bai Chay route, filling bomb craters, and repairing bridges and culverts to keep the strategic route open.
With the slogan “The heart can stop beating, but the traffic blood vessels cannot be blocked”, the Youth Volunteer Force N.78 Quang Ninh has been stationed at many hot spots, important points such as Song Sinh bridge, Yen Lap tunnel... to promptly rescue and repair when attacked. During their operation, they have contributed more than 211,000 working days, quietly contributing to each convoy of goods, weapons, and military provisions to pass through the area safely, providing timely support to the front line.
That spirit of shock continued to be promoted in the war to protect the northern border (1978-1979). Quang Ninh Youth Volunteers participated in digging trenches, building ramparts, transporting gasoline, weapons to serve combat units in the border area.
After the war, many Youth Volunteers who fought in all parts of the country returned to Quang Ninh to contribute to the reconstruction and development of their homeland. They brought with them the spirit of “3 readiness” (ready to fight, ready to work, ready to sacrifice) to build the economy and stabilize life in peacetime.
On December 20, 2006, the Provincial People's Committee issued a Decision to establish the Quang Ninh Provincial Veterans Association, a social organization that gathers people who participated in the Youth Volunteers of different periods, a place to extend the spirit of solidarity and comradeship.
Bright spot in the patriotic emulation movement
Entering peacetime, former Quang Ninh Youth Volunteers continue to promote the resilient qualities of soldiers in the past. With a sense of responsibility, loyalty and a desire to live a useful life, members continuously participate in building cultural life, developing the economy, doing charity, maintaining security and order and inspiring positivity in the community.
After streamlining the apparatus and implementing a two-level local government from July 1, 2025, the province currently has 45/54 communes, wards, and special zones establishing branches of former Youth Volunteers Associations with more than 2,000 members. In each locality, members are the core force in patriotic emulation movements; exemplary in implementing the Party and State's policies and guidelines; participating in building new rural areas; and encouraging members to live healthy, happy, and useful lives.
In the first 6 months of 2025, the Provincial Association of Former Youth Volunteers coordinated with the Youth Union at all levels to organize many programs to care for the lives of members, especially those in difficult circumstances. On the occasion of the Lunar New Year 2025, the Association mobilized resources and presented 616 gifts to members, with a total value of over 258 million VND. Implementing the program "Comradely Love", the Provincial Association of Former Youth Volunteers participated in repairing houses for 4 members in Quang Yen, Uong Bi and Ha Long wards. The Association is mobilizing donations for the "Comradely Love" Fund, expected to support house repairs for members in Cam Pha ward and Tien Yen commune.
The Youth Volunteer Veterans Association at all levels organized many activities to pay tribute, burn incense at martyrs' cemeteries, visit disadvantaged members, and participate in traditional activities with the Youth Union... Thereby contributing to connecting generations of Youth Volunteers, educating the young generation on life ideals and patriotism.
A notable highlight is the program of former Youth Volunteers returning to their roots to celebrate the Youth Volunteers’ Traditional Day. The delegation of former Youth Volunteers of the province visited red addresses: Truong Son National Martyrs’ Cemetery, Quang Tri Citadel Historical Site, Dong Loc T-junction Relic Site... to offer incense in memory, recall memories of the battlefield, show gratitude to comrades, and contribute to fostering the revolutionary spirit for the next generation.
With concrete, practical and meaningful actions, the Provincial Association of Former Youth Volunteers has increasingly affirmed its role as a social force with a rich tradition, deeply attached to community life. Despite their old age, the members are always shining examples of the spirit of overcoming difficulties, tireless dedication, exemplary citizens, inspiring a responsible, patriotic and benevolent lifestyle. In the new journey of the homeland of Quang Ninh, the Association of Former Youth Volunteers continues to be a bridge connecting the past and the present, contributing to enriching the revolutionary tradition, beautifying the image of the people of the Heroic Mining Region.
