Shrimp vermicelli is one of the familiar dishes in Quang Ninh , especially in Quang Yen ward, loved by diners no less than other famous specialties such as rice rolls/sticky rice with squid sausage, vermicelli with squid...
As the name suggests, the noodle dish is made from the main ingredient of fresh shrimp, combined with many other ingredients and spices such as crab meat, tomatoes, wood ear mushrooms, fish sauce, salt...
Although using seafood as ingredients and the preparation process is also elaborate, shrimp noodles in Quang Yen are sold at affordable prices, only about 20,000 - 25,000 VND/bowl.
This price is considered cheap compared to the general standard of living of local people. Even many tourists from other provinces when coming here, experiencing the shrimp noodle dish are surprised and delighted with both the taste and the price.

Most recently, a social networking site in Quang Ninh posted a photo of bowls of shrimp noodles filled with ingredients with the description "20,000 VND for a bowl of Quang Yen iron shrimp noodles, the best in the world" causing a stir.
This made many netizens skeptical and incredulous because the bowl of noodles was served full, with the shrimp filling covering the entire surface of the bowl.
Many people believe that such a serving of shrimp noodle soup cannot cost 20,000 VND. Some people revealed that they had tried this dish for 20,000 VND, but the amount of shrimp was only 1/3 of that.
Some others were curious to know the real price of the bowl of noodles in the photo. Some even commented that if they had to spend 40,000 - 50,000 VND to enjoy a bowl of shrimp noodles like the picture, it would be worth it.
Sharing with VietNamNet reporter, Ms. Nhu Ngoc (in Quang Yen ward) confirmed that the bowl of shrimp noodle soup in the photo that went viral on the internet was sold at her family's restaurant, located on Le Loi street.
However, she revealed that a full serving of shrimp noodle soup like this costs 35,000 - 40,000 VND, not 20,000 VND as described in the post.
“Our shrimp noodles are usually priced at 20,000 VND, including about 6-7 shrimp buds (depending on size) and served in a separate small bowl. If customers want to increase their portion and the amount of shrimp, the restaurant will make a larger portion of noodles for 30,000 or 40,000 VND, served in a large bowl.
Using separate bowls for different price levels helps the restaurant identify and calculate meal costs for customers more quickly and easily, especially during busy times," said Ms. Ngoc.

She also said that the restaurant has been open for more than 30 years, and her mother - Mrs. Tran Thi My - directly processes and sells.
The shop only sells in the morning from 5:30 to 10:30, many days it sells out early because of the large number of customers.
According to the restaurant representative, to make an attractive shrimp noodle dish that suits the taste of most diners, the restaurant must carefully select ingredients.
In particular, the shrimps are selected from sea shrimps such as shrimp, freshwater shrimps or iron shrimps, ensuring freshness, small and uniform size. This also helps the restaurant's shrimp noodle dish have a unique delicious taste, not mixed with shrimp noodle soup in other restaurants or localities.

After buying the shrimp, wash it, put it in a pot to boil or steam it, wait until it is cooked, then take it out, peel it, and drain.
Next, the owner will stir-fry the peeled shrimp with some ingredients such as chili, dried onion, sliced wood ear mushrooms, and sprinkle some turmeric powder to give the mixture an orange-yellow color.
Then, add a little water to the mixture above, simmer and season to taste. When the shrimp is cooked, turn off the stove. You can add more coconut milk to make the shrimp rich and delicious.
In addition to shrimp, the owner also uses crab meat, steamed with shallots and tomatoes to make the noodle dish even more appealing.
When customers come to the restaurant and order, the owner will start putting the ingredients into the bowl, pouring hot broth on top, then adding some dried stir-fried shrimp and steamed crab meat.
Quang Yen shrimp noodle dish is served with raw vegetables, herbs, diners can add fresh chili, kumquat, hot sauce... as desired.
Having the opportunity to visit Quang Yen and enjoy shrimp noodles a few times, Ms. Nguyen Thu ( Hanoi ) could not help but be impressed by the unique flavor and attractive appearance of the noodle dish.
She tried both the 20,000 VND and 40,000 VND portions and admitted that the amount of shrimp in the small bowl was quite a lot, enough for a person with a small appetite to enjoy comfortably.
If you don't eat noodles, you can replace it with red rice paper which is also delicious.
“A full bowl of noodles has bean sprouts, steamed crab meat, dried shrimp, sweet broth, rich tomato flavor and eye-catching color. The restaurant adds a little MSG to enhance the flavor, so customers who cannot use this spice should note to ask before ordering.
In a city with a high standard of living, being able to enjoy such delicious food for only 20,000 - 40,000 VND is truly worth the experience" - a Hanoi guest expressed.
