On May 19th, the Bao Lam Area Project Management Board mobilized excavators, dump trucks, and numerous workers to clear the mountain of garbage that had accumulated for many days at the Bao Lam 4 landfill.
Waste is placed in pre-constructed landfills and treated with lime and deodorizing solutions to ensure environmental hygiene in accordance with regulations.
A representative from the management board stated that the unit had not yet received funding to process approximately 7,000 tons of accumulated waste, but due to the urgent need, they had proactively advanced contingency funds. It is expected that the burial and processing of the accumulated waste will be largely completed by May 20th.
During the remediation period, the Bao Lam 4 landfill continued to receive approximately 40-45 tons of household waste per day from five communes: Bao Lam 1, Bao Lam 2, Bao Lam 3, Bao Lam 4, and Bao Lam 5 (formerly part of Bao Lam district). The management board deployed personnel to guide garbage trucks to dump waste in designated areas, minimizing pollution.

According to the Bao Lam Area Project Management Board, since the beginning of January 2026, the unit has not received funding for waste treatment – which is the reason for the accumulation of waste. The unit has submitted a written request to the Lam Dong Provincial Department of Agriculture and Environment to use revenue from waste collection services in the first four months of 2026 to treat the waste.
In the coming period, the unit will continue to work with localities to agree on a plan for receiving and processing the daily generated waste, minimizing the prolonged accumulation of waste as seen in the past.
Upon on-site inspection, the People's Committee of Bao Lam 4 commune noted that many internal roads within the landfill area were covered with garbage for hundreds of meters, with a total accumulated volume of approximately 7,000 tons. Leachate, which has been stagnant for a long time without treatment, is emitting foul odors over a wide area, affecting the environment and the lives of local residents.

Besides the Bao Lam 4 landfill, waste also accumulates in many other localities in the former Bao Lam district, especially in Bao Lam 1 commune, causing environmental pollution and spoiling the landscape.
Regarding the incident, the police are coordinating with relevant units to cordon off the scene, estimate the amount of accumulated waste, and collect records and documents to support the investigation and verification process.
