In the third quarter of this year, the agriculture, forestry and fishery sector increased by 3.74%, with agricultural exports showing many positive signs.

After more than two years with a series of negotiations and dozens of pest risk analyses, Vietnamese grapefruit has officially been exported to Australia, not at a low price but by overcoming strict technical barriers. The opening of the market in the last months of the year has added vitality to agricultural exports.

Unlike grapefruit in the US and Europe, Vietnamese grapefruit has a pleasant sweet taste for consumers, so it can be exported to many markets. In the first 9 months of this year, despite being continuously affected by tariff barriers and technical barriers from major import markets, agricultural export turnover reached more than 52 billion USD, an increase of more than 14% over the same period last year.

The third quarter marked the return of the fruit and vegetable industry with 6.22 billion USD thanks to durian returning to the export race. The target of 8 billion USD for this industry is almost at hand.

The door is still open for agricultural, forestry and fishery exports to reach the target of 65 billion USD. However, the trend of trade protectionism is spreading globally, causing Vietnamese goods to face increasingly complex defense measures. Agricultural products are no exception.

Mr. Luong Hoang Thai - Director of the Department of Trade Defense, Ministry of Industry and Trade said: "We need to have careful internal preparation, combining with businesses in the industry. Take advantage of available consulting resources. Government agencies also always accompany businesses, build projects to support market expansion, helping businesses respond promptly to fluctuations".

The international context in the last months of the year remains complicated due to geopolitical tensions in many regions, especially in areas producing energy and fuel, affecting input costs of the Vietnamese economy and the agricultural sector. At the same time, natural disasters such as storms, floods and livestock diseases are at risk of outbreaks. These are challenges that need to be identified to maintain growth.
