Standing shoulder to shoulder with the people

In late October and early November, heavy and prolonged rainfall due to storms caused severe flooding in many communes and wards of Hue City. Floodwaters rose rapidly and receded slowly amidst power outages, severely impacting the lives of residents. Vulnerable areas faced even greater difficulties. Located in a coastal border region, Thuan An ward was one such vulnerable area, with residential areas surrounded by vast stretches of floodwater.

However, the people of Thuan An received timely support from the government, organizations, and forces. Among them, the officers and soldiers of the Thuan An Port Border Guard Station were the core, leading force, working side-by-side with the local authorities and people from the initial stages of propaganda, mobilization, assistance with relocation, provision of food and water during the floods, to cleaning up mud and debris after the water receded.

Lieutenant Colonel Luu Xuan Nghiem, Political Officer, and Major Nguyen Minh Phu, Commander of the Thuan An Port Border Guard Station, said that during the rescue operation for people affected by the floods, all officers and soldiers "went to battle." Among them, youth union members were the vanguard force, present everywhere, wading through water, pushing boats to move the elderly and children to safety; coordinating with the Fatherland Front and other organizations to receive food and bottled water from charitable groups, navigating the floodwaters to provide assistance to each household in the deeply flooded neighborhoods of Dien Truong, Tan Duong, Tan An, Tan Cang, Tan My, etc., ensuring that no one went hungry and that they felt secure knowing they were always being supported and assisted promptly.

The youth of the Hong Van Border Guard Post, the A Dot Border Guard Post, and the Chan May Port Border Guard Post formed the core force, finding ways to string ropes across streams to transport 200kg of rice, 13 boxes of instant noodles, and milk to rescue people when 26 households in Ta Lo A Ho village (A Luoi 1 commune) on the other side of the stream were isolated due to severe flooding and food shortages; braving the rain to coordinate with other forces to promptly reinforce the pedestrian bridge in Cur-Xo village, A Luoi 4 commune (whose bridge abutments were eroded by floodwaters), ensuring the safety of the people; and addressing landslides in the area to promptly "clear" roads.

Creating a ripple effect in the community.

According to Colonel Dang Ngoc Hieu, Secretary of the Party Committee and Political Commissar of the Border Guard Command of the city, the youth of the Border Guard Command have always been the core and vanguard force in mobilizing the masses, overcoming the consequences of natural disasters, epidemics, storms and floods, preventing forest fires, and coordinating the resolution of issues related to political security and social order in border areas.

The youth movements of the city's Border Guard have seen many innovations and diverse, practical models, creating a strong ripple effect in the community. Typical examples include the "Border Guard's Helping Hands" model, "Borderland Lessons," "Green House Supporting Education," and "100 Dong House." Representative activities such as "Spring Border Guard: Warming the Hearts of Local People"; "Spring in Border and Island Areas: A Tet Celebration of Military-Civilian Solidarity,"... have left a strong impression of the city's Border Guard youth on the people in border areas.

From 2022 to the present, through various programs, initiatives, and activities, the youth of the Border Guard Force in the city have mobilized, connected, and coordinated with other forces and benefactors to donate nearly 11,000 gifts; more than 20,000 sticky rice cakes, nearly 300 scholarships, and nearly 120 bicycles to disadvantaged students who have overcome difficulties and excelled in their studies; along with hundreds of livelihood models, totaling nearly 2 billion VND.

The footsteps of young Border Guard soldiers are persistent and proactive on every border. Wherever the people need them, they are there; wherever there are difficulties, they are there. Members of the Youth Union from various units have dedicated thousands of man-days to helping the people harvest crops, build roads, repair schools, construct solidarity houses, prevent and mitigate the consequences of natural disasters, and build and strengthen the people's trust and affection.

At the conference summarizing the work of the Youth Union and youth movement in the period 2022-2025, Colonel Dang Ngoc Hieu emphasized: The effective contributions of the Youth Union members and young people have played an important role in helping the Border Guard force of the city successfully complete the task of managing and protecting the sovereignty , territorial integrity, and national border security in the new situation, building an increasingly strong people's border defense system.
