Yamal has signed a contract extension with Barcelona until 2031. |
According to The Athletic and ESPN , Lamine Yamal signed a new contract with Barcelona, lasting until 2031. The deal was announced shortly after the player turned 18. This contract takes Yamal's salary to a new level, surpassing stars like Robert Lewandowski and Frenkie de Jong.
Yamal will receive a basic salary of around €15m (£12.6m) per season, which works out to €260,000 a week after tax. If Yamal wins all his performance-related bonuses, that could rise to €25m a year after tax (around €425,000 a week).
Yamal's release clause will remain the same at €1 billion, the same as the previous deal. This reflects Barcelona's strategy and confidence in protecting their valuable asset against interest from big clubs such as PSG, Liverpool, Chelsea and Manchester City.
Yamal’s previous contract, signed in October 2023 when he was just 16, was worth between €1.6m and €3m a year, making him one of the lowest paid players in the first team. However, Yamal’s rapid development has made it easier for his agent Jorge Mendes to negotiate an upgrade. Yamal’s status as the highest paid player has also caused some controversy within Barcelona.
According to Sport , some veteran Barca players believe that the huge salary for an 18-year-old player could cause an imbalance in the team. However, with Yamal's value and talent, Barcelona considers raising the player's salary completely worthy.
