In 2023, Yen Bai achieved outstanding results in digital economic development. The proportion of digital economy in GRDP reached 12.2%, the proportion of digital economy in industry and sector reached 5.73%, and the proportion of e-commerce in total retail sales reached 9.3%. The proportion of enterprises using electronic contracts and digital platforms reached 50%, respectively, and the proportion of digital economic labor in the workforce reached 16%. These figures show the strong and synchronous development of the digital economy in the province.
In the first six months of 2024, these indicators continued to grow strongly. The proportion of the digital economy in GRDP reached 14.06%, the proportion of the digital economy in the industry sector reached 8.6%, and the proportion of e-commerce in total retail sales reached 12.7%. The proportion of enterprises using electronic contracts and digital platforms reached 55% and 58%, respectively, while the proportion of digital economic labor reached 18%. This shows that Yen Bai will not only maintain but also continue to promote the achievements made since 2023.
To achieve these results, Yen Bai province has implemented a series of specific tasks and solutions. In terms of institutions, the province issued Plan No. 228/KH-UBND dated November 14, 2023, closely following the national orientation and local resolutions. The province has also invested in developing technology infrastructure, with the rate of villages/hamlets with mobile broadband coverage reaching over 98% and the rate of villages/hamlets with fixed broadband Internet reaching 95%. Digital payments have become popular, with over 65% of people having electronic payment accounts by the end of 2023 and 71% by mid-2024.
Regarding digital platforms, the province has deployed many platforms to serve digital transformation and digital economic development, including a smart traceability platform for agricultural products and a management platform for tourists. Artificial intelligence (AI) technology has been encouraged to be applied, especially in the fields of marketing and sales.

At the Conference, Associate Professor, Dr. Tran Minh Tuan - Director of the Department of Digital Economy and Digital Society, Ministry of Information and Communications gave a speech on orientation and shared experiences on digital economy; leaders of departments, branches, localities, enterprises and cooperatives in the province gave speeches on the current situation of e-commerce, difficulties and obstacles, proposed tasks and solutions to promote digital transformation in the fields of: Industry, trade, agriculture, forestry, fisheries, tourism, etc.
To promote digital economic development in the coming time, Yen Bai province needs to focus on a number of specific directions and tasks. Firstly, continue to raise awareness and proactiveness of sectors, authorities at all levels and enterprises on digital transformation. Secondly, promote the deployment of digital platforms for corporate governance and build a comprehensive database system to support enterprises. Thirdly, strengthen breakthrough activities to develop the digital economy in sectors, especially agriculture, forestry and processing industry. Fourthly, promote international and domestic cooperation on digital economic development, and finally improve financial mechanisms, ensure capital sources and optimize the use of budget for digital economic development tasks.
By implementing these tasks and solutions, Yen Bai province will continue to affirm its position in the digital transformation process to achieve the goal of digital economy accounting for 20% of GRDP by 2025, while making an important contribution to the sustainable socio-economic development of the locality./.
